Did some googling afterwards and looks like they also closed Dayglow Larchmont (and Awan) so could be a bit of reshuffling with the new Chinatown location in play. Regardless, there were also some negative comments on Reddit that were similar to Rx8 about the Venice location and the reviews on Yelp are substantially lower than other Dayglow locations.
On a separate note, I understand the cafe/coffee shop business is pretty hard (just like restaurants) and at this point I must acknowledge there has been an explosion of shops, both specialty and not. Its getting to the point where I’m wondering if there’s actually enough business to support all these places and I wonder if that played a role in this (probably not).

Picked up a bag of beans from Stereoscope today, and remembered that they’re one of the few places that still offers a free cup when you buy one. Nice perk! Especially because you can get a pourover.
Today I chose the same one as the bag of beans I got (this Bolivian coffee), so that I can see exactly how far off I am inmy various attempts to dial in at home.
