ALTO - Studio City

Good context. Thanks, @beam.

They stated it might be “slightly larger.” I can’t remember if this fish has a season or is cultivated.

Oh, memories of Elkano & Güeyu Mar :face_savoring_food:.

I only want my 911 Turbot with a short shift :racing_car:.

Could tariffs be affecting the cost?

Turbot is farmed in Spain and so is available throughout the year. Wild turbot is usually available and best value in April to June and September to November.

Most foodgeek mentions of turbot inevitably end up with references to Porsche and Elkano lolol…

Ja wohl.

Went back for the Turbot. Yes, $325, it was a 4 lb fish. Was perfect for 6 people. Excellent preparation. The chef was excited to make this for us and it exceeded our already high expectations. Overall, it we thought it was fairly priced. Definitely the stuff of luxury but no regrets. Empanadas were fantastic too.

Went to Alto with the lovely wife for our 38th anniversary. We had excellent service and gracious celebration of the occasion.

Started with the criollo. I am a sucker for any kind of layered bread and this was great. My better half liked the herb butter than I did, but still a great beginning.

Have to pay tribute to my cocktail, a Negroni Blanco, an exceptional libation.

We followed this with the burnt avocado salad,

if we hadn’t been celebrating this would have been my wife’s entire meal. Really a great dish.

I had an OG empanda. Delicious, but I think I like fried better than grilled.

For the main we had the ribeye. The best steak I have had in years. The artichoke accompaniment was great, but the potato terrine was the weak point of the night,

I didn’t take a picture of the steak opened up, but it was perfectly medium rare.

We were too full for dessert, although the dulche de leche combo was very tempting.

All in all a lovely celebration. Will definitely be back to explore more or the very creative offerings!

I’m not going to lie that the first ten years had their ups and downs. However we both had busted childhoods, and were determined not to repeat the pattern. Neither of us wanted ebeth to go through that.

The last 28 have been much smoother, although it’s never perfect. She can’t stand mushrooms, oysters, clams, or squid, and I don’t understand the overcooked pasta requirements.

TMI I think. Sorry. I think you and your New Orleans wife will surpass us someday. As will @J_L, and his wife, and we will be saluting the young emperor, as we did ebeth, in a few years.

Sometimes things work.
