They’re closing after exactly 15 years, which almost certainly means their lease is up for renewal. Likely the landlord wants to raise the rent. Might just not be as profitable as their many other ventures.

they’d have to make the service fee 30% to deal with the rent!

i take it all back! went in for a final visit and it is still a restaurant very much in its prime .

peach aguachile - dont remember seeing this on the menu before, emblematic of the bold flavour plus elegance of so many dishes on the menu, particulalrly the nonmeat ones
left feeling very sad animal will no longer exist…

Sad.
Jon and Vinny’s is so average and consistently disappointing.
They are capable of so much more.
At least we have Sun of a Gun.

I had that precovid, very good.

We’ll see what happens when the lease is up (I think in 2026).

I’ve been to son of a gun a couple of times never liked it as much as animal unfortunately

Just looked up Son of a Gun… yet another 18% service charge that isn’t a tip??? These guys are some evil capitalists (But delicious tastemakers). my god …

It is the same at all J&V establishments

If you do post on one of the Home cooking threads! I was thinking about it too but wasn’t sure how to pull it off. Wish I got to try it, never made it back post covid :frowning:

Will do! I didn’t have it either but here’s @PorkyBelly description. I’m curious what acid they used.

If aguchile, shouldn’t it be lime?

Yep, that’s what I’m going with. :slightly_smiling_face:

Already discussed at some length here:

Starting to put it together in my mind. I don’t see any actual cilantro, mint or chiles so I’m thinking they made oils? And I assume lime but looks like extra peach juice too.

there were three liquid components: a vivid green oil, which i assume was cilantro and/or mint, the aguachile which had peach juice, and (presumably) olive oil

Little red dots too that could be chile de arbol oil?
