Went to Plateia at the UCLA Luskin Center today (open to the public) and apart from loving the no tips allowed so the price on the menu is actually exactly what you pay, everything was well executed. Had the gyro, shrimp pasta (heads on), hummus (I believe the pita was freshly baked), and corn. Nothing wild on the menu, but a nice meal.
That thicccc cut , smoky, sweet, and not too salty, really made that burger.
And their mille feuille is excellent
Go Bruins. Luskin catering is surprisingly good⌠Better than it needs to be.
Love that Au Cheval classic burger
New name of Plate50 is Bhojana.
Bixby Park Farmers Market, LBC
Needed some time to kill before the Keith Haring exhibit at LB Museum of Art . (A must see!)
Solis Bagels and sorry I forgot the name but they had Salvadoran tamales. Also there is a vendor there with Honduran coffee.
Wait, are you saying that Kurry Pinch is what is now known as Colombo Attitude, the takeout place in Valencia? I tried ordering from them, but was locked out. Got messages from both their website and calling that they werenât taking orders. Iâd like to try them again.
Similar to what I discovered for another Sri Lankan place, Pearl Island, in Van Nuys. The latest Yelp review mirrors my experience. Phone ahead, but no answer.
I realize the internet doesnât suggest as much but I swear Iâm not crazy. Iâll try to figure out why I think that.
Interesting about Pearl Island. I just followed them on Instagram. Letâs see if they ever become close to a real restaurant!
Higo Chicken in La Habra. Packed on a Sunday afternoon with families.
The juiciest delicious chicken. The skin is perfect. My son hates chicken but he said this place is great.
Great fries. Sauce is addicting. Wish there was an option to add more meat.
I have to order plantains. Love the caramelized sweet and creamy bites. The Sysco fries somehow taste better when you douse them in aji sauce.
Even chicken tenders?
Whoops. Meant to say my son hates rotisserie chicken. We were on a pretty regular cadence of 1 roti chicken per week. The kids got very tired of this meal and leftover chicken enchiladas.
Nobody hates chicken tenders.
My daughter likes to differ - she likes chicken but thinks that chicken tenders are the least flavorful/enjoyable parts of it (and I would agree)
I also kinda/sorta agree. I donât hate them, but I donât particularly like them, unless theyâre slathered w/ sauce or deep fried.
I think we need a separate thread for chicken tendie awareness and appreciation.
People are eating chicken tenders that arenât deep fried?
Pretty sure partner has prepped tenders w/o deep frying.
But, no, donât think Iâve ever seen a non-deep fried tender at a restaurant!
other than yakitori? prob not.
Cochinita taco from Tacos La GĂźera on 59th Place off of Broadway. Maybe my favorite tortilla right now.
Cochinita was tender and full of flavor.
*six dollars for one taco. Hard to get a sense of scale from the picture, but itâs quite big. Last time I was there I got three tacos before I knew their size and I walked away uncomfortably full.
Newly opened Sora Craft Kitchen. Tried some beef kebab, branzino, falafel and my favorite: fried chicken sandwich with isot pepper jam. The chef Okay has some serious cooking background, having worked at Per Se, EMP and Melisse.
Great find, looks terrific-funky part of DT though.
Nice find! Thoughts on food? Must visit? Part of normal rotation?
