Budonoki - Virgil Village

Yup - that’s the exact list I use as the base of my database. As you mentioned, Morihiro is, and Budonoki is not, on the list.

That is definitively plausible - that the first inspection must be complete before a new establishment appears in this database. But Budonoki opened in 2013, and restaurants much newer than that (Jade Rabbit for example which opened a few months ago) are on the list, so it does not seem to be the case that it’s in the queue and the queue just happens to be very backed up.

As @PorkyBelly mentioned, if you serve food at all, you are supposed to be on this list. See for example, a few other “bars that serve food” which are on the list.

Maybe this is why Budonoki isn’t on the LA Times 101*

*guess i’m thinking of last year :joy:

Budonoki does have an active beer/wine license, so it’s not like this is some fly-by-night operation.

But I remain perplexed how/why Budonoki is not in the health department’s system.

Type 41 license means “bona-fide eating place” aka restaurant.

I believe these places kitchens don’t get inspected by the health department but as part of the bar license. Could be wrong tho :person_shrugging:

No, Type 41 licenses are for restaurants. Makes no difference to the health department whether they have a liquor license.

I wanted to ask opinions for those that visited Budonoki. It seems like it’s not really a kid friendly place? I have a kids age 12 and 4. They are generally well behaved when eating out but I don’t want to be that parent that brings kids to places where adults expect to have no kids be there.

I’ve brought my daughter. Outdoors is more kid friendly and they’re super cool with kiddos

Definitely wouldn’t say it’s kid friendly just based on the vibe.

That being said, if the restaurant doesn’t have a problem with it, then who cares, do you.

I’ve seen plenty of kids there! The vibe outside is big time neighborhood family hang. Maybe indoors on a saturday is dif but I wouldn’t sweat it

I didn’t know there’s an outdoor area! That’s awesome.

I went on a Saturday night and got seated at the table right underneath the huge Orion beer neon light

This is great to know, thanks! I had sort of written it off as a grown up drinking spot (which I like! To be clear) but would love to roll through right at open and sit on the patio with the kids too.
