Pretty much same page as Porky here. Food-wise, I liked the meal and enjoyed it but nothing popped out. The tomatoes burrata, maybe scallops and prawn (I think there could be less of the sauce on the scallops; enjoyed this more for the vegetables and sauce), and spaghetti were a smidge better but nothing really was too far from that standard.
I did think the drink program was quite good. Ordered a decibel martini which had a nice aroma of lychee as per menu.
Also got a milk punch which I think I actually liked a bit more than my memory of Katoâs version. A tad less harsh and more sweet (which is to my preference).
I think their range of drinks from non-alcoholic to cocktails to sake (sorry, donât know anything about wine or their selection) is quite strong and I could definitely see myself dropping by for a drink if convenient and in the neighborhood, or maybe even for after dinner drinks given it closes at 10:30 PM (though ideally Iâd still probably try to make it to Ototo instead with their focus on sake).
I also really liked the dessert. Was ultra stuffed at the end and had to pack up the remainder of my portion, but was still great the next day.
Really enjoyed what we had here on Thursday. Agreed the cocktails were fantastic.
Unfortunately they were out of the parker house rolls but we didâŠ
The Uni Toro Bites (Great! nothing mindblowing but delicious)
Croque Madame (Maybe a little heavy on the cheese but thatâs what I signed up for with this dish/)
The Aioli Garni (REALLY delicious, loved the different preps on the veg)
Abalone Pot Pie (Highlight, loved this, snail butter was tops)
Scallops/Prawns (Maybe the only miss for me, it was good, but definitely lacking in texture and maybe needed a pop of acid, I shouldâve picked one of the more unique dishes)
Soba Cha Pudding (Loved this)
Also thought the dragon beans and the tarbais gratin were exceptional, but not exactly summer dishes. The SNF wagyu was way overdone and we didnât much care for the sweet profile both the steak and hash brown were sporting.
W: Went second time. I agree with good to good, except one dish (loup de mer) was only okay, and I canât in good faith call it good. Good for Wichita maybe. Peony likes the restaurant less than I do.
How to say it? Itâs not as good as I want it to be -with as many Japanese chefs there are in Paris itâs a fertile ground to explore but that doesnât mean itâs not good. Itâs worth checking out
Appreciate the insight that along with everyone elseâs posts on ftc does not have me running over there. I trust ftcers way more than media publications
I really enjoyed it. My only gripe is that the dishes are quite large/often rich so I shouldâve gone with more than 2 people to fully tackle the (very long) menu
I went and actually liked it a whole lot. I got the tasting menu and grilled maitake and dragon tongue beans, and honeynut squash puree. I thought the use of different acids, textures, layering of umami (from aging, cheese, meats, searing etc) and herbs was really well done. One of the best meals Iâve had in LA . . .but tastes differ. I want to try the rest of the menu. The food feels like if France and Japan were neighbors, and done by someone who really likes both cuisines independently, too. Iâd say itâs more than just fusion.
For those with a Chase Sapphire Reserve, Camelia is one of the small number of restaurants participating in the 150$ credit, so weâll be using it here.
Went last night. Unfortunately overpriced and very underwhelming.
The green circle half chicken ($65) was severely overcooked and dry. Duck ($63) was OK but for the price it wasnât even a full duck breast, just two thick slices. The sauce was very rich and needed acid or something to cut the bill. Bluefun toast and pot pie were both fine but hard to go wrong with dishes drowning in butter and garlic or chopped bluefin on bread.
Also service was odd. Our waiter hardly checked on us and when we got dessert the table was not cleaned nor were the plates and utensils placed in front of us. At this price point itâs a little funny to be given a stack of utensils to hand out to everyone.
Would not recommend unfortunately as someone who likes Tsubaki.
