COVID-19 LA Discussion | Will you continue to order takeout or delivery as the COVID-19 pandemic spreads in LA?

Reminds me of a similar cinematic crisis - still hilarious as hell.

(and desperately keeping it on the food on this board, Taco Bell weighs mightily in this film…)

That explicitly does not apply to businesses, though from what Pence and Fauci said today, that might change tomorrow.

Large events and mass gatherings can contribute to the spread of COVID-19 in the United States via travelers who attend these events and introduce the virus to new communities. Examples of large events and mass gatherings include conferences, festivals, parades, concerts, sporting events, weddings, and other types of assemblies. These events can be planned not only by organizations and communities but also by individuals. …

This recommendation does not apply to the day to day operation of organizations such as schools, institutes of higher learning, or businesses. This recommendation is made in an attempt to reduce introduction of the virus into new communities and to slow the spread of infection in communities already affected by the virus. This recommendation is not intended to supersede the advice of local public health officials.

Take this with a grain of salt, as it’s a third-hand report allegedly from somebody who works in intensive care in Seattle: if you get sick enough from COVID-19 to end up in the hospital, your prognosis is worse if your BMI is over 25.

in what way is this information worth sharing at this time?

It would be irresponsible for them to keep people in that line for 4 hours despite recommendation of social distancing.

Be at 99 Cents Store right when they open! Tons of TP hoarders there yesterday at 7 am.

At Porto’s Bakery and Cafe in Glendale, more than 100 people waited for meals and sweets. “Yeah, I understand this isn’t exactly avoiding large gatherings,” said Ariel Diaz of Los Feliz as she waited for an assortment of cakes and pastries. “But the food is good, so I’m taking my chances.”

Another reason to lay off those carbs. I knew there was a reason I was pissed off at all those restaurants like Din Fung Tang that make it virtually impossible to eat low-carb.

At Gelson’s the other day, I wanted to buy some frozen kale to get me through this crisis, but there was not a single frozen vegetable left in the store. There were some frozen pasta meals, and the cookie aisle seemed pretty well stocked. :frowning:

I will take it with a more than a grain of salt. 10 shakers of salt.

If you take a look at the group that has a tendency of higher mortality rates, elderly, they’re going to have a higher BMI.

Not directed at you, but here we go with fun with correlation.

I’m sure there are doctors on this board who could comment on this.

Lol . Was never in short supply where I live . I guess they turned out to be right.

Playbook

Week 1: Order as much takeout as your fridge can fit, consume over the course of the week. Stock up opportunistically. Plant vegetables - Spring is upon us and you probably need something to do while you’re hunkering down. That’s what those dang urchins are for… farm-hand

Week 2: Cook all your highly perishable items

Week 3: Begin consuming frozen food

Week 4: Consume canned and dry goods

Week 5: Hopefully some of your vegetables can be harvested…

This was a specific category of higher-risk individuals, along with diabetics and people with heart disease, and in context it explicitly applied to people under 40.

Also, in the US, the middle-aged are fatter than the elderly, and the only age groups with average BMIs not over 25 are those 18-24 and those 85 and up.

On our crib this is not a big disaster because we are in month 2 of 3 of full keto which means we don’t go out and we don’t drink. This is the best time for us to be doing this so we just continue eating at home and not considering food fun

I know some of these words
