I mean aren’t pretty much all coffee beans imported (besides apparently a tiny supply out of Hawaii)? And aren’t the tariffs an automatic 10% on everywhere right now? I thought the pause only applied to the bonkers ones from “Liberation Day”. Just with that alone I would expect prices to increase. I haven’t paid much attention to the effects of climate change on the most recent crops but I recall hearing about years of drought in coffee growing areas that I’m guessing hasn’t and won’t just go away.
If the value of the dollar maintains but the tariffs persist, might be a good time to travel or ask friends who are traveling to grab some coffee for you. I was in Taipei, Taiwan and Hong Kong recently and was impressed enough with the coffee I was drinking there that I picked up some coffee beans over there (though my collection is growing faster than I can drink it). Lots of roasters there and I was definitely enjoying the coffee.
Asia (from my limited view) seems to have a great coffee scene if you can make your way there. Tokyo has famous roasters (I think) and coffee shops. And Jack from endorffeine (which I like a lot) goes to Bangkok and holds pop ups so I assume they’ve got a great scene too.
