Enlighten Bistro 168 Has The Best Dim Sum In The San Gabriel Valley

Back again five days later. Would you believe I ate all this by myself? Combination of dinner items and night time dim sum.

Can you taste the difference?

Definitely. They also have Wagyu beef chow fun for $20.

This place has the best lo bak go I’ve had in a long time. At first I balked at the small serving size but they really did a good job with the texture of the radish in it.

went today - not a lot of vegetarian options (per usual for dimsum). Noting from what my friends ate - their dumpling skins are way over steamed cause every single one ripped when grabbing it.

Radish cake was very light and tasty.

The salted egg yolk bun was just ok. Incredibly oily inside and minimal salted egg yolk flavor, but was just ok as well, thought other places in LA do it better.

Wagyu beef chow fun - i ate some of the noodles, a bit too mushy and fairly bland.

Stir fry mushroom dish was REALLY good.

Veggie dumpling was ok. Ripped when I grabbed it.

That all being said - my friends that are not vegetarians really liked it. One said it was his favorite dimsum place in LA.

But to me the over steaming is a big no no - can’t be the top when your skin is either poorly done and /or oversteamed. Especially for the price, it’s definitely the priciest dimsum around.

Agreed.

Here’s Sea Harbour’s har gow that I had this past weekend:

Not a fan of their truffle accent but steaming is on point. Skin is white as it should be, pleasantly pliant and chewy.

Kristie Hang reports that Enlighten Bistro is closed for remodeling. My guess is that they’re reconfiguring the premises because of the heavy traffic.

probably change the way they do private rooms.

Their minimum was way too high for the price on the menu. Almost impossible to hit it without a very large party.

I was there today. Sign said reopen around March. We’ll see about that.

This is also my favorite dim-sum places so far!
I still prefer food at NBC seafood, but this place wins the atmosphere and service, also quite creative. It is best overall!!

Enlighten Bistro temporary closure for remodel might not be temporary. Crossing fingers.

Sigh. We were delighted chef from King Hua was helping out in the E168 kitchen during dinner. He would make our favorite off menu dishes from King Hua. Sorry that will probably be over now

Woah. What happened? Rule violations??? They seemed super busy at lunch. Or guessing dinner is pretty empty?

Dinner not empty.

According to food blogger Kristie Hang, internal strife. Dinner was certainly no problem. They were as busy at dinnertime as Chef Tony is empty.

To me this is starting to feel like deja vu all over again. About 4 to 5 years ago a restaurant called Xiang Yuan Gourmet opened up in Temple City with dim sum superior to anything in the LA area and more reminiscent of the dim sum in Vancouver and the Bay Area. Location wasn’t good so it didn’t get the buzz it should have. Then suddenly the dim sum stopped as the dim sum chefs effectively went on strike. After several months the dispute was resolved and the dim sum came back, but a few months later the dim sum stopped again and never returned.

Apparently reopening this weekend with an additional Sichuan menu. Not sure what this means for the dim sum.
