Farmers market, currently in season PSA

I loved the Weiser Farms ‘Arava’ melon in the scallop dish at Rustic Canyon so went straight to their stand at BHFM on Sunday.

If you’re east side, they’re always at LA Homefarm, which is such a great shop smh. Not cheap, but the produce is unbeatable, bc it’s these mangoes, Weiser melons, Andy’s orchards, etc.

I went last week and they said they were done (though I think in previous years they then had a different type?). So I bought a whole box.

Arnett Farms going hard with close to 20 plums/pluots! I should really get his name I was HIGHLY RECOMMENDED ™️ @J_L to get the Geo Pride Pluots. Spectacular. Pick the lighter color!

Ken’s emerald’s also great!

Is it a California farmers market visit without obligatory pupusa?

This coconut milk….are you kidding me? I been lied to my whole life. The coconut water also! Same price as a bottle of Harmless.

Also got to fist bump Murs in passing

Cotton Candy pluots and Flavor Kings were the winners this week from Arnett’s.

Ken’s touted their nectarines, but I bought a couple of mango peaches for the fam.

The Snow Queens and Sangre peaches reigned supreme at Tenerelli.

Murray’s had some really nice rugby grapes that were super sweet and as snappy as a good sausage.

Wieser Sugar Cubes are extra sweet this week.

Harry’s was sold out by the time I arrived at 9:15AM.

Darn it I was disappointed with my sugar cubes, I bought two hopefully the second one turns out better.

I enjoyed Ken’s pluots more than arnetts they also have purple grapes that are super interesting

Smith farm strawberries were very good

Tamai Japanese tomatoes were excellent!

SMFM Report

  • Andy’s Orchard is done for the season :sob:
  • Saw asian pears at a few stands for the first time this season today.
  • Tomatoes and melons are still abundant across the market.
  • Magical grapes have a stand now, $25 a basket. I wouldn’t buy them, but their anime inspired logo is awesome
  • William from Sei and family always look so happy. He said that Fall’s omakasei will be way better than Summer’s.

Got a $15 flat of those grapes (we’re back in town visiting for the week), and while yes that is $$$, HFS those grapes are insanely good.

Also grabbed a small Mara des Bois from Harry’s Berries (my eyes rolled into my skull), then we walked up Wilshire for Petitgrain and Huckleberry.

Man I miss the produce here.

Look at that tomato!!

I don’t have pics but I’ll slice up some tomatoes add some olive oil/salt/black pepper and eat that on top of toast. Tomato toast? So good.

What did you think of Petitgrain?

So, we’ve actually only eaten the Cardamom Scroll with Strawberry Jam, haven’t had the scone yet.

FWIW I thought that was really excellent. I’ve read about people waiting in long lines, but we just walked right in (probably around 10:30 or so on Wednesday). I think the only thing they were out of was the savory croissant.

Would I wait in line? No. Not more than say 10-15 mins (MAX), but that’s primarily because I am impatient and don’t think anything is worth waiting in a long line for.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen more than like a 5 minute line, just looks big because only a couple people can be in at one time

If it’s not too much of a hassle, worth another trip to try the plain croissant. I finally got one relatively fresh, and I think it might be my favorite in the city.
