Favorite Restaurants San Fernando Valley (SFV)?

I searched this topic and did not see anything other than one recommendation (by me) for fish tacos.

Does anybody have a line on some really good fish and shrimp tacos that aren’t from a sit-down restaurant?

I’ve had some pretty good fish tacos from here: https://maps.app.goo.gl/B1BbXEombxVKaAZv6?g_st=ac

It’s a stand set up in front of the Food 4 Less, only open during the day.

Heading out to Acton via the 405.

Any recommendations for coffee and food (vegan or omni restaurants with vegan options) around the 405?

If ~2 miles from the 405 is not too far, maybe Vinh Loi Tofu? It’s been forever since I’ve been, though. Pho So 1 is much closer to the 405, but I don’t ever recall vegan options (if they have any) being marked as such.

Hmm, vegan is more challenging, especially the further up you go. As is “near the 405.” Two of my regulars are Furn Saj in Granada Hills (about 3 miles from the 405 via the 118). Sure, grilled meats, but they’re also good for vegetarian/vegan options with their flatbreads and other items. Also, Namaste Spiceland in Santa Clarita (a bit off the 14), which used to be exclusively vegetarian and vegan, though they now also serve a few chicken and fish items. Are you going to visit Ns1? :waving_hand:

For coffee, there’s Bodhi Leaf near the 14 via Via Princessa in Santa Clarita. House Roots Coffee in Granada Hills, a couple of miles off the 405 on San Fernando Mission Blvd.

Went to an animal sanctuary!

Afterwards I did a return visit to Furnsaj

Got the spicy tomato onion. Good but I think the one with olives and bell peppers is much tastier. Had also a falafel wrap but nothing to write home about tbh

I haven’t had the falafel wrap, but often get the falafel pie. Bready, but unique. I first heard of it when someone either here or on CH mentioned it.

I like both the mixed olive and spicy tomato & onion mana’ish. My brother likes the olive, but prefers the spicy tomato & onion as the olive is (in his words): “even a bit too olive-y for me.” :slightly_smiling_face: I guess I’ve also been more in a spicy mood of late (which, TBH, is pretty much always for me  )

Furnsaj shawarma is top tier

No arguments there. A low key wildcard/competitor is Tel Aviv Grill (Encino). I live closer to the Valley Village location, but the Encino location is head and shoulders above. Very happy with the beef offering.

Encino one is so good/much better, was disappointed/shocked the first time I had it in Valley Village.

Hummus Bar and Grill, Tarzana.

Another trip to the Valley. Went to Kindred Spirits Care Farm in Chatsworth and then to Deadly Wax in Granada Hills (low key one of the best record stores for the heads out there @avantbored )This place was on my to do list. LOTS of food.

Falafel Sandwich (laffa). Massive. Comes with a side of fries and with the sandwich you can add lots of veggies. I like the zhoug and harissa sauces the most.

I got the house hummus which also comes with a massive laffa. TBH I thought it was pretty bland and really not worth the price when I can get a massive falafel sandwich.

Been meaning to get out to Deadly Wax! And to venture further west to hit up Cedro in Newbury Park…
