Food prices rising: real or contrived?

A Facebook memory from a few years ago and I had gotten corn for 17 cents an ear. I’m paying way more than a dollar. I wonder if it’s because of sucky weather.

My local taco stand raised taco prices by 50% ($1) to $3/taco - I now need to bring more than $20 to the taco stand. Never has rising food prices been so real.

$1 to $3 is a 200% increase.

$2 → $3 (an increase of 50%/$1). I updated the post for clarity.

Yes, the math also took me a second, but then realized it’s been a good 10 years since I saw a $1 taco…

Or it’s been 10 years since we’ve seen a good $1 taco.

LOL!! Touche!

Here’s some serious inflation: 750ml Marcaverde olive oil at Sur la Table in 2018: $7.96. Today: $19.95.

Part of that is that in 2018 it was a serious bargain compared with similar oils.

Prices have been slowly coming down at the food markets. Restaurant menu prices are higher than they have ever been. There’s always a little greed mixed into the process…

It’s been hit or miss, especially when it comes to specials and everyday prices. Some weeks one place is much cheaper and the next the other. Some weeks eggs are down, then they recently went up again.

The surprising thing for me is that Target is now cheaper on some work horse staples now with their recent price reductions and grocery outlet has seen increases in their prices as a result of the products new “value” in store.
