Full of Beans... Rancho Gordo Heirloom Beans

Ha!!! I was inspired by @DiningDiva’s recent post to so a Bean salad with shrimp. Lentils and beans go great with a dressing of pomegranate molasses or balsamic.

Dommy is right, it’s the Flor de Mayo bean that should be cooked within a reasonable time after being harvested. This is one of my favorite beans. If I find them in a market in Mexico I will buy them and bring them back with me, extra weigh in the luggage be damned, they are that good. The Flor de Junio (what RG calls Silvias) are also very good but not quite as good as the Flor de Mayo

Thanks, Ladies! Guess I don’t have to worry because I don’t have Flor de Mayo. Will make the Lentil Seafood Salad next! I have salmon not shrimp, though. TBC…

Will Raspberry Vinegar & Molasses do?

Like Molasses Molasses? Pomegrante Molasses is just reduced pomegranate juice… it’s something you actually could do at home… I’m not a fan of Raspberry vinegar ( My mother loves those sweet poppy seed dressings. No wonder funky cesar salads my faves… LOL!) but if you think it would good with Shrimp… Then yes! I have always found beans could use a touch of brightness (remember I put raw onion attop my favorite bean dish). That is tabasco tastes so good with red beans and rice…

Oh okay, glad you clarified - it’s Pomegranate Molasses not Pomegranate and Molasses. I have sooo many condiments, spices, etc. and am looking to use stuff I already have… hence the Raspberry Vinegar. We’ll see how it goes… :slightly_smiling_face:

Back in the game. Trying their popcorn tonight. Very excited to eat the garbanzo beans this week. I’m pretty sure I’ve only eaten garbanzos from a can.

A huge ingredient where I’m from. Always have one at home. Like the Georgian one from Uncle Valiko currently

I’ll put it on the list as soon as I use up some the many, many condiments and spices spilling out of my cabinets.

You go! I’ve yet to pop the popcorn. I think it was @DiningDiva who scared me away because of all the measures she took to get it right. Please report!

Most of them should be in the fridge

I think Huntington’s meats sells this stuff too

Oh, I didn’t mention the perishable condiments in the fridge? :slightly_smiling_face: Just as overflowed. I have a bad habit. I’ve even starting pickling stuff and concocting my own potions.

Monsieur Marcel

I forgot about the popcorn notes from @DiningDiva. We essentially cooked popcorn in he same way we used to cook Whole Foods kernels when you ere able to buy bulk items. Heat up the pot, put in a 1/8 cup of grape seed oil and add 1/3 cup of kernels.

The kernels did not pop as normal. We had a lot of unpopped kernels. Oh well.

My kids like to mix with Cheetohs hot popcorn anyway. I think it turned out fine but definitely not one of the best RG products.

Upthread a little bit, I told a story about how usually I precure my black beans. From where ever my mom can get them from a bucket for the best price (And mom KNOWS.) It’s been a good long while since I bought black beans. But when your mom is immunocompromised and really good at Zoom we haven’t had a chance to exchange food stuffs in several months, so I went ahead and got the Midnight Black Beans when I saw them at Standings recently…

And… They cooked up really beautifully…

This weekend however, we didn’t make it to Standings, but instead went to Sprouts (Distilled Water needed to be had) and I’ve always like their Chimichurri Steak for a quick meal… and with our large grill pan, it always comes out great!

So when I was thinking, what we were going to do with the steak… knowing we still quite a few tostadas on hand as well… I decided on Homemade Chipotle Bowls!

Cilantro rice made with Japanese brown rice… As much Guac as I want… Actually crispy chips and wonderful home cooked beans. All well worth the effort to for ‘fast food’

That…looks…awesome. I can almost taste it via the photos

Thank you. All the beaniacs on the FB page think the popcorn is the best thing since dirt, best popcorn they’ve ever had, etc. Nice to know I’m not the only one that thinks it’s not one of their better products.

At least I only bought 2 bags of the popcorn.

A friend gave me one as a gift before I was in the bean club because we both know Steve Sando. It took me over a year to use it up, because why waste it. Then I got another bag in one of my first bean club boxes  Took me another year to use that one up.

Since you know Steve Sando can you show him my haul and ask him if he doesn’t think I deserve to be in Bean Club by now?! I also just ordered the Ayocote Negro which I don’t need but had to have! Just kidding… kinda’. But what’s a girl gotta’ do?!
