Incredulously, they have this at the 14/crown valley taco stand.
The stand that briefly operated a few years back at the corner of 10th E. & Palmdale, in front of the smog and lube place, had suadero…and everything else. Easily the best taco place in the area until this recent wave.
I should add the Al Pastor and chicken are more than decent at El Taquero Poblano. Quite good, actually. It’s just that I give the nod to Tacos El Llano for those two. Tacos El Llano’s Al Pastor is outstanding. OTOH, El Llano’s chorizo, while good, doesn’t come close to Poblano’s.
Ensenada-style fish tacos + shrimp taco from Da Bomb Fish Tacos truck, parked at Lane Park in Quartz Hill last Tuesday. Legit, and quite good.
There’s the intel I was looking for! Thx
Re: da bomb
Tacos are now $7 and you will naturally find a square tip prompt so your per taco price might be higher.
I found the QPR poor at best and would have been more satisfied with a 2 taco combo from Rubios. But the chili looked pretty.
A long overdue update here. Sadly, keeping a restaurant going in these times is trying at best. Similarly to what’s been going on elsewhere, the Antelope Valley has had some notable closures of restaurants I mentioned upthread.
Ponia’s African Cuisine closed
Belizean-Jamaican Cuisine closed
Boriquen - the Puerto Rican place - closed, though they have relocated
Ponia also closed their African markets in Palmdale and Lancaster, although it appears someone else took over the original market in Lancaster.
The Thai run “Asian” market in Palmdale closed. The adjacent restaurant, run by the kids, still operates. This was quite a blow to me, as I got so many home cooking ingredients here.
I’ve given the half-empty post, here’s the half-full one on the Antelope Valley:
Puerto Rican restaurant Boriquen closed on The BLVD in Lancaster, but has relocated a couple of miles to the west as Plaza Boriquen.
The delivery/takeout Peruvian from home kitchens are still going, Tayta Peruvian Food on the eastside of Palmdale and Imperio Peruvian Cuisine for the westside of Palmdale.
Plus, there’s a Peruvian place in the Palmdale International Shopping Mall, Inca Mayan International Kitchen and The Best Ceviche in Lancaster.
Belizean-Jamaican Cuisine closed, but now there is Jamaica’s Island Style in Lancaster (in the same small shopping plaza as Plaza Boriquen), plus there’s more home takeout from The Jerkkshack on the eastside of Palmdale.
The “Asian” market closed and the African market(s) closed, but there is still the Indian market at Indian Palate and a couple more Filipino markets have opened, one in Palmdale and one in Lancaster.
Hopefully, I can soon give some further details and updates on some of these places as well as giving a local state of the taco address.
I also neglected to mention that Ay Papa! Que Rico! has opened a Lancaster location, taking over a former IHOP.
Visited Jamaica’s Island Style in Lancaster.
Dinner combo: Curry chicken; red beans & rice; plantains and steamed vegetables, plus a side order of a chicken patty.
And how was it?
Quite good All of the Jamaican places in the AV that I’ve tried were good (caveat: all three of the four that existed in my time here
)
Evidently there is now a Slice House in Palmdale.
Is there a large Jamaican population in the AV? Just wondering if there’s an obvious reason for the quality being consistently high (during your time ).
Indeed, there is. In a strip mall, between a Krispy Kreme and a bank, with a Yogurtland and a Habit Grill further down.
I’m not sure. I know Palmdale has one of the largest Salvadoran populations in the country. There are currently three Jamaican/Caribbean places in the AV, one being a home pickup (like two of the Peruvian places), but prior, there was never more than one at a time, and there was quite a gap at one point. I think it’s just down to something like 100,000 more people in the AV since I moved here, which leads to more people from everywhere. The only upside to the increased traffic and congestion.
