Heartbreaking stuff. That’s far too young to say goodbye.

So…has anyone been to this restaurant lately?

I just went tonight. Honestly was not great, ordered

Uni panna cotta - way too much going on, couldn’t taste the uni and when I did it felt fishy (I have a very high tolerance too), tasted like maybe there was parmesan or curry in the mixture?

Chicken liver pate - the apple butter on top worked really well but the pate was WAY overseasoned, could have been great if the balance was right

Caesar - nice lettuce/endive but too much dressing, they really needed to tone down the dressing because it was drenched

Frog legs - the dish we liked the most, spicy and deep fried so can’t really go wrong

Snap peas - miss, reused the same sauce/oil from the frog legs and it didn’t work

Lamb leg - overcooked and gamey, cut in a way that looked like LA galbi

Blue prawns - this was ok but felt like what you get at any Thai restaurant (served on top of a papaya slaw thing that maybe used ripe I.e. orange papaya)

We really wanted to like it but I wouldn’t go back. Maybe it was an off night

I am very confused why you got the same sauce on the snap peas and frog legs, they are completely different flavours. the poor man’s XO on the peas is baller. I went last Friday and everything was good or great. the burger and the cocktails are the best things though.

snap peas

frog legs

seasonal pickles

salad

mussels and clams

burger

cocktails: yoda’s lightsaber, the pig in altadena, misfit in the south of france (must try)

I don’t think they were quite literally the same sauce but there was definitely some crossover between the flavors being used on those two dishes, and my whole table was in agreement on the quality so maybe it was just an off night.

The poor man’s XO overpowered the snap pea to me so I was just tasting what tasted like XO and oil instead of the snap pea.

My favorite version of snap peas I’ve had was at Majordomo with horseradish and Meyer lemon.

I don’t disagree with this, the peas are a delivery mechanism for the XO for sure. in my opinion the only thing common the frog legs and the peas have is heat.

the best snap peas i’ve had in LA have been at gjelina, where it’s certainly a vegetable forward concept. instead of spicy oil you get acid.

Not exactly a Caesar, but hit the spot. The vegetables were so crunchy I was fine without croutons.

Good though it made me want to go back to Leopardo and get two Cali-preses.

Definitely “more is more” for this sprouted broccoli. H.O.P. = hearts of palm

Lamb was really good. The thin slices with heavy char made me want tortillas.

I had to try the apple fritter arancino because it was such an original idea. There’s a germ of a great dish here, but for me it was sort of in a no man’s land between savory and sweet. I think the rice needs to be more like rice pudding and it needs more caramel and to be fried a bit crunchier.

It was too early to order the burger.
