Hhh San Diego wanderings

Mal Al sham

Maybe best beef shawerma I’ve had ever? But definitely the best in the USA. It’s a Syrian restauant.
Tender and wildly juicy, they clearly layer it with far as you get bits of it within your crunch wrap style grilled shawerma wrap. Wish I got a pic of the spit, two adult human sized spits of beef and one of chicken. With a highly addictive whipped garlic sauce and fries. Only wish was they wrapped the fries in the wrap pre grilling.

Parking lot is a shitshow, if I lived closer I’d be here a couple times a month.

Alforon

Lamb ouzi. Flavors were good but lamb was a little dry. Hyped as best Lebanese restauant in San Diego. Didn’t get to try their other dishes. I’ve heard the owners are super sweet and delightful.

The dessert was the real star of the show. “Love dessert” aka ayash essaraya. Never seen a dessert like this it was delightful. Nutty, not too sweet, great fresh cheese flavor with a touch of rose water/saffron.

I didn’t think any cuisine in sd was better than LA but middle eastern (non-Persian) definitely seems to be it. Possibly even better than little Arabia in oc but I haven’t explored enough there to compare.

Maybe Georgian.

Lots of Chaldeans in El Cajon, something like 50,000.

I thought about recommending Mal Al Sham but have only been once. Alforon I found overpriced years ago even before everything got crazy.

Mal Al sham is so good. It’s so far but I want to go again, they have a relatively tighter menu but I imagine everything is good especially seeing how many middle eastern locals seemed to be patronizing the joint

Mal Al sham is so good I went here two days in a row. Drove out from sd because I don’t think I can get anything close to this in LA as opposed to pretty much everything else in SD.

God tier kabob, rice, house baked bread, garlic sauce, and salad. No notes lol
