Absolute Bagels always a line. The egg bagel when it’s hot and fresh is so good. That subtle sweetness and get it with some chive cream cheese, fire!

That’s a goal of mine from 220th to South ferry with a celebratory ride.

How long did it take you?

How many stops for food, drink, bagels, pizza, etc? Was it foodie stops or just places to fill up.

Did you take Broadway? Or another route?

The restroom situation makes me nervous. Had an emergency once so I got off at Union Square tried the Whole Foods and the whole seat was pissed stain. The only public park bathroom in NYC that is usable is Bryant Park/Public Library and Prospect Park. Sucked it up bought something at some casual restaurant.

You don’t find the USQ bathroom acceptable? I’ve used it and thought it was fine. For next time, Target also has a public bathroom.

I believe it took about 7 hours all in all and we took the Broadway route until we were about to hit the Times Square area, then we took 8th Ave instead.

Stops were:

BEC at the beginning at a bodega around 220th

Cocina Consuelo in Hamilton Heights ~ 143rd

Absolute Bagels ~ 107th

Katana Kitten ~ 10th/Hudson

Celebration drinks afterwards at Dead Rabbit

I considered myself in good shape then since I walked everywhere anyways but that walk kicked my ass. I knew that my knees would hurt but I was surprised at how sore my hips got. Definitely worth it though!

Are you guys talking about under the new owners?

Meanwhile, the actual bagels…

Stretch pizza. Wanted to try Lucky Charlie but I’m staying in Manhattan and was too tired.

Excellent pizza. Not quite Mozza but in the same vein. Good toppings. The Caesar salad was woefully under salted and borderline flavorless.

No wait today at I’m Donut? due to the winds and threat of rain. Undoubtedly a very good chewy donut. That dulce de leche and original were great. Not overly sweet and feels very light. Wouldn’t wait 30+ mins though.

Next time, get the potato chip salad. More better!

I wouldn’t order the potato chip salad again.

Rain keeping all the people away today. Waited 2 mins at Okdongsik. Broth so clean and refreshing. One of the best bowls of soup I’ve had ever. The extra meat is a lot of meat and you should do that.

A’ight, need @js76wisco to be the tie-breaker.

I know there are some big fans of the Golden Diner pancakes here.. for those who don’t want to head all the way down to Two Bridges, you can now enjoy the pancakes (mini version) at their new Korean-American sister restaurant, Golden HOF (48th/5th, Rockefeller Center).

After work crowds pack the place, with plenty arriving early for the 3–6pm happy hour. The beer/shot combo for $9 and the burger and beer for $22 isn’t so bad, considering the burger alone is $25. Cocktails are $14 during happy hour.. that’s a Midtown happy hour for you.

Rose rigatoni - rigatoni with tomato-gochujang garlic cream sauce and panko crumbs

Caesar salad - with sesame and ssamjang caesar dessing

Wings - Korean fried chicken wings with gochujang glaze

Great place for some after work hang!

Hart’s, Bed-Stuy - It’s hard to be considered underrated in NY. If you make it, it’s because you’re known and you’re making $$. If people aren’t talking about you, you simply run out of money and close. I just checked and Hart’s has 130 Yelp reviews in about 10 years of service; some places do that in a few months. Hart’s is that underrated spot and has managed to stay low key.

From day one their dishes have been consistent and delicious. Signatures like the clam toast, pork Milanese, and their lamb burger (my favorite in the city) are as tasty as ever every time. Hart’s is a super small, quaint, cozy spot tucked behind some subway stairs.. a true neighborhood gem. Despite the small location, the folks of Hart’s knew they can cook and afterwards have had hit after hit opening up Cervo’s, The Fly, Eel Bar, and a tinned fish company, Minnow.. but it’s always Hart’s that I find myself going back to with friends for a good catch-up

My favorite bite of the trip was the Chapli Kabob Chopped Cheese at Nishaan. Chopped cheese has always been my go-to late night order at a bodega, and when I heard someone made a Pakistani version, I was sold. Freakin delicious sandwich. Can’t wait to go back. Right off the 1st Ave L stop

Falansai, once a staple Vietnamese restaurant in Bushwick that held a bib gourmand for years, has now rebranded in a new Greenpoint location serving Vietnamese-Mexican dishes.

The original location leaned more traditional Vietnamese, cool vibes with an industrial interior and a projector showing old films. The new Falansai feels more polished, and the chef, who is half Vietnamese and half Mexican, is bringing his A-game in creativity and flavor, while also leaning more into a wine-focused experience. Enjoyed great bar snacks and dessert here.

Walking by Falansai and realizing it had moved to Greenpoint was a great surprise. Walking in and seeing some old friends working there was even better. All in all, a great new addition to the already too hot Greenpoint food scene.

Three Decker Diner - after a recent change of ownership, this is my new favorite 24/7 diner in Brooklyn. A decker classic with onion rings and some chili cheese curly fries. A 5am classic.

Daily Provisions - BEC on a poppy seed roll with thick cut caramelized bacon, not bad. Although I prefer supporting local bodegas than a growing chain with about 10 NYC locations now. Daily Provisions coming to LA in 3,2,1…

Teglia Pizza Bar in Montclair, NJ - Roman style pizza. The best all-around buffalo chicken slice I’ve had in some time.

and of course, THAAFAE (taylor ham always and forever and ever)

Big fan of Golden Diner the whole menu is great. Good to see different versions of chopped cheese. Chopped cheese is S-Tier deli/bodega order. Are you from north Jersey?

The first time I went to Elio’s was probably 25 years ago. An upper east side institution. Nothing has really changed and that’s the charm of Elio’s. Absolutely mobbed on a Wednesday night with regulars and people ordering many of the same dishes. Is it the best Italian food in NYC? Probably not but a place you keep going back to and have a great meal.

Shrimp and white bean salad

Baked clams

Pasta trio. The arribiata was spot on. This was the first place I had pasta with prosciutto and peas. Still banging.

Chicken scaparrielo with sausage is the best. We had chicken parm and T-bone steak not pictured. Too much rosemary on the steak for my liking. Wednesday is spaghetti and meatballs night.

When the sun is out on a spring weekend everybody is in the west village. People love waiting in lines. In a 6 block radius there are lines for Mama Too’s, Smalls Jazz club, Birdies frozen yogurt, Myka Greek Frozen Yogurt, John’s of Bleecker St and of course L’Industrie. I actually think Myka had the longest line then L’Industrie. Apollo was closed and don’t even get started with the Italian restaurants (Don Angie, I Sodi, Via Carota, L’Artusi). I’ve kinda given up on these joints and 4 Charles.

How many Swedish candy shops does the West Village need? I still think L’Industrie has the best slice in Manhattan but if you didn’t want to deal with the chaos and went to Lucia or Cello I wouldn’t blame you. You can always check before you go

Myka has crazy lines and im not sure why.

For L’industrie and Mama’s too, you can order online and cut the line if you buy a whole pie.

I sodi, Via Carota and L’artisi do take out if you dont mind eating on a park bench or having slightly warm lasagna. They are bookable, but some of the harder reservations to get in the city. Otherwise, Da Toscano in the neighborhood is just as solid and not a pain in the ass.

4 Charles is like worse Hayato: they are a huge restaurant and hold back most seats for vip clients (whereas my understanding is Brandon is very fair). Not hard to be a vip but its not worth the effort. Ditto for Carbone, Torrisi, Corner Store. The food is good, but not outstanding enough to be worth the effort.

If you are still around, ping me! Happy to grab a drink hahahaha
