All Day Baby -
Last minute decision to grab some biscuits for the week. Also got the shrimp & grits, a Jack & Coke slushee and the sour cream cheesecake with strawberries and sumac. I think the grits at the restaurant is probably better than to-go. The fried leeks steam, the fried egg is still yolky, but goes over. It all becomes mush and soft. The shrimp Bolognese was quite delicious
very shimpy and flavorful. The cheesecake is for dessert later
and the slushee was particularly good
super refreshing
I should have gotten 2.
Edit:
This sour cream cheesecake with strawberry-sumac-pepita topping is legit! Cheesecake done in the NY-style vein. The crust is delightfully crisp even hanging out in the fridge last night. I wish there was more strawberry mix because it is delicious! Worth the $10.

Superfine Pizza -
Got them at Happy Hour prices
between 3-5PM only. I ordered a full cheese and pepperoni each. The Superfine chopped salad is chilling in the fridge. I ate the honey slice on the way home. It was nice and warm, but I didn’t love it. The salami is a tad too barnyard-y funky (and I normally love barnyard funk) and the honey was too sweet and there’s too much of it. The idea sounded lovely, but I just didn’t like it. The pepperoni chalices are superb.

I didn’t go this week, the last time I was there I only waited about 5 minutes to get in.

Where did you pick up the fruit from if not HFM? I figured Sunday post = HFM.

I got it at the santa clarita farmers market.

Fantastic. I just received tags and messages because the reception in and around Carmel was ca-ca. On the way up passing farms, orchards & vineyards I thought of HB and looked them up. Doesn’t look like you can visit, but they have an interesting family history.

For the mochi, what’s the one in the lower row, 2nd from right? Is it also filled w/ red bean?

And is the basil eggs benedict any good? I didn’t know they made savory items!

I don’t remember the name but there was no filling I believe. No fill or white bean fill. Can’t remember I ate them all super quick. The outer layer was like a biscuit texture.

:upside_down_face:Sorry I almost didn’t post that picture because I knew I’d be of no help if anyone asked me a question

Yeah if I understand correct Sidecar would only put out a small batch daily right when they opened. But there were six or so when I went at 930 so I grabbed one. I’m guessing they’re open to making more during these times

Tried this last weekend, promising for their first week! Chicken Parm: this was served on pillowy, grilled ciabatta. The menu said it would be on a sesame roll, but we were pleasantly surprised. The cutlet was cooked fairly well - crispy exterior, and the breast was relatively moist. The pesto was bright and lightened things up vs. a classic deep red sauce version (which I also love).

Italian: served on a grilled sesame roll. Quality of ingredients was high: good cold cuts, the bread was fresh (if a bit firm), and the heirloom tomatoes actually tasted like gasp tomatoes, a rarity on most Italian sandwiches around the city in my experience. The Calabrian aioli was delicious.

Pickup was a little sloppy because they’re in a shared kitchen space and are just getting up and running. We thought this was way better than our last couple of trips to Uncle Paulie’s, and the price point is similar.

Last week:

Squash blossom quesadilla from Alejandra’s cart in Echo Park. I was surprised to see her out on a weekday so got a post-lunch snack.

From Clark Street Bread:

Baguette with butter and jam

Egg salad sandwich. The tomato slices were extremely good. They had some seasoning on them (salt and pepper, I think) but the natural umami from the ripe tomato really shined through and added something extra to the sandwich. Also, this lettuce was extremely crisp.

But the main reason I ordered from Clark Street was because their market had Harry’s Berries!

These were just as good as everyone said they would be! I ate the whole container in 2 days. How can I go back to regular supermarket strawberries now?

This past Wednesday:

Detroit-style pizza from Dough Daddy LA

We got the “Close Enough” which is made with jack and mozzarella, instead of Wisconsin brick cheese (that would be “The Real Deal”). I’ve never had Detroit-style pizza, but this was extremely tasty. There was a nice crispiness to the crust underneath and around the edges. Not oversauced, well proportioned amounts of sauce and cheese. My husband has had Detroit-style pizza a couple times from when he worked there for a few months about 2 years ago, and he said this was really good and similar to places he tried there.

It also reheated well in the oven. We got the pizza through a friend who ordered it for us, but from what I can tell, he opens order slots for just a few days a week and they go extremely quickly.

When you look at your credit-card statement! But, yes, they are indeed amazing.

Alejandra’s cart is the blue-corn + fungus quesadilla person?

Yep! Alejandra is the lady with the blue corn.

Yum. I have “The Real Deal” scheduled for pick up on the 28th! Only Detroit style pizza I’ve really had is Jets (mid-west chain) and I think they don’t use Wisc brick cheese.

Porridge + Puffs -
Lunch service was rockin’ with the Juneteenth collaboration. I was too late to the party and missed out.
The Gold Set (Sake Marinated Pork)

This delightful box reminds me of the dosirak by Spoon by H. There are quite a number of components to this box. The grain base seems to be the purple multigrain rice that I only get at Korean or Japanese restaurants. The sake marinated pork reminded me of the spicy pork from KBBQ
I was partially expecting Vietnamese thit nuong. Then there are pickled shredded beets, a delightful kale salad, roasted carrots, a jammy marinated egg, assorted house pickles, and potato salad. It’s a pretty generous box that could probably feed 2-3. This is one box that doesn’t mess around. I ate half and was stuffed to the gills. Chef Minh Phan and her team are thoughtful geniuses
churning out really delicious food. I also got the porridge and pickles to-go set for later in the week. Just add my own veggies and protein.

Antico -
Thanks to @butteredwaffles intel, I called in to reserve my supply of peach ice cream even before they had chance to update the online menu this morning. Strawberry is also available. Also picked up a pepperoni pizza
to which my chowpup companion happily ate as we drove to P+P. I’m usually driving so I never get to have Antico pizza fresh. The chowpup shared and it is pretty freaking delicious fresh out of the oven. Though I feel like something is different with their dough this week
there seems to be more flavor then there usually is.

Among many other things at Cassia, which continues to be awesome, we got the kaya toast for the first time and it was somehow great even to go.
