Missed the holy basil sunday series while traveling but hit both Broken Spanish and Komal. Both (predictably) so great.
Great heat across the entirity of the Broken Spanish din - and a pretty knockout Arroz Con Mariscos and Kato’d up version of the BSC Chicharron.
Komal had an amazing grilled and fried squid taco - and the salsas (and of course, tortillas) across the dinner were stellar. A corn on corn on corn dessert (flan, corn crumble, atole ice cream) was a perfect encapsulation.
Hitting most of the others - can’t beat 6 ish new dishes every week at this caliber for that price.

bistro na and komal have been my favorite kato collabs.
anything stuffed with shrimp farce is my weakness so the szechuan pepper chicken wing was my highlight of the meal. This was followed closely by the crispy prawn with egg yolk stuffed youtiao, sour fish soup, and the jowl and coppa char siu that brought me back to needle.

peking duck - liver, plum
sour soup fish - tomato, chili

I was at the late seating!
This was my favorite, tied with Sqirl. All of them have been great. Those wings have seen many iterations - the last I had was at the collab at Pasjoli a year and a half ago or so? So great.

Komal Squid taco, Funke tortellini, Na’s wing have been my top bites this summer. Looking forward to the next ones

Wow what a fun way to spend the last few weeks. Last night’s with Jon and Vinny doing Son of a Gun had bangers. A stellar sardine toast and a soft shell + pork jowl with a passion fruit and oro blanco som tum ish situation. Best blueberry pie I’ve ever had for dessert.
quarter sheets last week similarly rocked.
Can’t wait for next year.

Sardine toast >> softshell crab > blueberry pie > tuna > chicken sandwich > trout almondine (ours seemed underseasoned?)

Tambien. Chicken whiffed out the breading after a bite or two, trout srsly lacking seasoning. But the other bites were great. Best sardine toast I’ve ever had?

Didn’t get the sardine toast thinking it would be too much food, and sure enough, we were stuffed by the end of the meal. I do regret skipping after reading everybody’s comments; and the shrimp toast was my favorite at Son of a Gun.. still a delicious meal, would love to find blueberry pie like that regularly.
