Have they done fried chicken before? Wondering how good it is.
That’s a really good deal!! Going to put it in notes…
That’s totally what I thought! (and what I did, in terms of filing it away) ![]()
They have a fried chicken sandwich and I loved their chicken fried skate with biscuits and gravy…so I’d imagine it would be pretty tasty.
Thanks @Hungrydrunk for reminding us about Connie and Ted’s. Decided to stop in for dinner and as hungry observed they’ve built out their parking lot in a very tasteful fashion and thankfully they were super busy with both their patio area and parking lot even though it was sub 60 degrees which means angelenos think it’s snowing. (Blurry pics bad lighting and I suck at photography)
Portuguese fish stew. Zesty, tomatoey and a small hint of spice all seafood was perfectly cooked.
Monkfish with herbed olive oil. I don’t recall ever having monkfish at all in this manner. It was simply pan seared and so perfectly cooked. Meaty and tender almost tasted more like meat and less like fish. Came with a side of wilted spinach that was buttery and vegetal with just the right hint of bitterness.
Also onion rings because why not.
Great food and excellent service. Plus all the tables were appropriately spaced. Definitely still cranking out delicious simple plates of seafood, worth a visit.
C&T is still doing a very good job in this grey-area time. I had a work team lunch there yesterday and it was great.
Their outdoor covered parking lot dining area, where we ate, was very comfortable (except for all of the fire trucks screaming down Santa Monica Blvd) and service was excellent. There were lots of groups eating spread out inside and a private party in one of the small separate dining rooms.
Food was very good-- oysters (chef’s choice), warm/buttered lobster rolls for all of us, plenty of drinks and a shared dessert. It was a really nice late summer afternoon at the seafood shack.
How was the mosquito sitch?
Just joshing. Sounds wonderful @LAgirl!
I am curious what you ate at C&T?
bread ![]()
lol-- no mosquitos as far as I could tell.
@BringYourBrunch there aren’t a lot of places in LA (none that I can think of) that have full clams w/ bellies instead of clam strips. The lobster and oysters were very good quality and it’s a nice place for lunch. It’s a New England seafood shack, not a place for inventiveness imho and this Bostonian (former) appreciates that.
lazy attempt by Michael to make extra $$ while doing less work? ![]()
Oysters, clam chowder, crab cake, fish and chips. All just … nice. Felt very run of the mill though and again no reason for it to be considered a "must go to’ restaurant whatsoever. Nice atmosphere and service though but nothing to differentiate any of this from a bubba Gump’s to be honest.
Dude when has C&T been considered a must go to restaurant? Maybe a decade ago? It’s a place you go when you want east-coast style seafood. It is not a destination
So does this former Cape Cod-er! Plus it doesn’t get much better than C&T’s oysters.
Contrarians who get butt hurt when poked are baffling.
It’s hard to give your opinions weight. Aside from the flippancy, you don’t seem to understand the food or the restaurants where you eat. Example: comparing restaurants and food styles that are dissimilar - Holbox vs Angler. C&T vs Holbox, C&T vs Bubba Gump, Majordomo vs G&TG, corn tortillas vs flour, takeout vs sit down…
We are being trolled guys.
It’s hard to take an opinion seriously when someone compares C&T to Bubba Gump.
Every restaurant has its own theme and caters to different segment of the population. If someone want more “creative” seafood, they can go to Providence. Does that mean every seafood restaurant ought to be Providence? No. If someone’s looking to go to a quality New England seafood shack, they’ll look to C&T aka “must go to” in that sense. But apparently, you think people should go to Bubba Gump instead.
Was it the C&T vs Bubba Gump comparison that confirmed it for you? ![]()
I understand my tastebuds and the idea of paying ridiculous prices for things you can get at similar value elsewhere. Like a lot of Los Angeles things, all glitz and glamour with no real substance.
And don’t put words in my mouth. Seafood is seafood, and there was no comparison made between Majordomo and G&TG other than they both have bread “meals” that substitute for actual food.
Comparing Providence to Connie and Ted’s in terms of quality of food is absolutely embarrassing.
