Funny how you just focus on my reasonable critiques food AND service based which many others have agreed with as opposed to the numerous compliments I have given to many places as well. Another post which has nothing to with Connie and Ted’s but is allowed to stay up for unknown reasons.
I’m going to stop at this point because I am getting very upset and feeling extremely belittled for having an opinion. There have been numerous disrespectful personal attacks (and plenty of posters who have given graceful, informative and respectful responses) so I will choose to take the high road.
I’m sorry for those who will end up going to some overpriced restaurants and not have an exactly incredible time, because at this point I feel I can only say positive things without being labeled “a troll”. Sad and unbelievable.
Frankly, I am puzzled by your calling Connie & Ted “cookie-cutter” as there are quite a few dishes that are, if not unique for this area, certainly hard to find elsewhere around here. If you mean of a New England seafood shack, then that’s precisely the point of the place. Among other dishes not common in these waters, the Stuffies, the Rhode Island style chowder, the Portuguese Fish Stew, and (as noted by LAgirl) the fried clams with bellies come to mind. I’ve always found the prices reasonable, especially for the quality of the food, but, if you prefer Bubba Gump, that’s your prerogative.
I don’t really see personal attacks but some (sometimes quite harsh) criticism against you as you seem have some quite odd ways to criticize restaurants and not really putting the different restaurants in the appropriate context, e.g. not really understand what certain restaurants are aiming for.
I understand feeling ganged up on, especially online, though I’m not sure that’s anyone’s intention or goal here. Having watched this play out the last few days, and in the interest of constructive criticism, a few things to consider.
Differences of opinion are great, and I’d guess most come to this board not only to discover new restaurants but also to have opinions/taste challenged, sharpened, and developed through other, sometimes opposing or more experienced perspectives. But argumentation, even with something as subjective as food, requires evidence to support claims: specific impressions, examples of how to improve dishes, comparisons to canonical versions or similar restaurants. For example, in evaluating Holbox, it’s totally reasonable to not like their aguachile, but I’d be curious to know how it compares to other or classic versions. And more generally how Holbox compares to restaurants in that category, regional mexican seafood, places like Erizo, Fauna, La Guerrerense. Not liking something is totally fine, but for me, I want to know how Majordomo’s bing compares to something you might get in China or in the SGV, because I can index that and build my own palate through that information.
Not trying to gang up on you - I know what it’s like to be a stranger in a strange land - but I don’t think I’m the only one to find a lot of your posts to be unnecessarily black and white, overly certain, and with more heat than light.
Strong opinions can be interesting and constructive, but the sweeping generalizations about some of these restaurants, without trying their most well known or canonical dishes, requires more evidence and humility.
@BringYourBrunch, I very much enjoy information and reviews that go against the grain, as this site is often an echo chamber, BUT you do so in an over-the-top confrontational/aggressive manner. It’s one thing to go against the general consensus and quite another to basically say this restaurant so many of you enjoy sucks and you all don’t know what you’re talking about. Not surprising that you’ve rubbed a lot of folks (who are extremely knowledgeable about food/restaurants) the wrong way. Maybe, don’t change your content so much but modify how you convey it. I think you might get more out of this site. Otherwise, Twitter or Instagram might be a better fit.
I have no prerogative! Next time I go I will order those items and see for myself. Thank you!
Nope. Someone raving about one item does not mean that item is worth the price it is listed as.
I believe it is definitely some people’s goal.
I loved Holbox’s aguachile. It was overpowering but still one of the best things I ate there.
Who is raving about one item ?
Sad to hear Connie and teds is possibly closing I really loved that spot when we lived close by their property is for lease no official word on their insta though.

Suspicious that there’s no news about them closing per se, only about the building being for lease.
Reservations are available tonight, Friday, and future dates through March.
There were no “for lease” signs there today.
Parker House rolls: really good, though I don’t get the pinches of coarse salt on top. Why would I want that?
Crab & lobster omelette (brunch menu): huge and good. Very lemony beurre blanc.
Portuguese fish stew with sort of giant croutons: excellent.
Parker House rolls usually come with sea salt. Just had the complementary at Water Grill. Delicious.
A sprinkle of salt on the top is common, but not clumps like that.
