15! but if the waiter just threw the pizza down and never really came back it’s 14
In the SGV, you’d be a whale of a tipper lol…
I’m a 10% kinda guy in SGV so you’re right about Nemroz.
Of course I know what imported ingredients cost, and rent…but there are enough choices of several different kinds of pizza for me in Los Angeles…and I never thought id say that…I probably will do the Montanara! and I’ll eat at Da Michele when I get to Naples!
yeah, thats 18 inches…looks good but as I said, not paying $30 for a Margherita…I might go for the Montanara…otherwise I’ll wait till I’m in Napoli!
They’ve started lunch service recently, and I had a good if uneven lunch here. Prices seem to have come down a little bit, and the Margherita is now $20 (at both lunch and dinner) - given the larger size, that seems like a fair price. Wish I could’ve tried more, but I had to have the classic!
I was really happy with this pizza! The crust was great, a slight crisp and char giving way to a chewy soft dough. The sauce was bright and tart although I could’ve used a little more - then again, I feel that way with a lot of pizza, and I don’t really remember how much sauce there was on the one I had in Naples. The center wasn’t as soupy as I remember the Naples pizzas I tried (both at Da Michele and elsewhere).
A couple other dishes. Melanzane a funghetto / Eggplant topped with burrata - the burrata was beautiful and rich, but the eggplant was way too salty. Hard to finish the eggplant part of the dish. Also had the Insalata Nizzarda, their take on a Nicoise - everything was really good (most of the other ingredients are under the bed of arugula in the pic), and I love anchovies, but this salad didn’t really need the salty kick as the olives and tuna salad itself provided plenty.
There were some service issues, but I chalk that up to just opening for lunch service and being new in general. Hopefully that’ll improve because I definitely want to go back to try more pizza!
Also, not sure how much is valet at night, but daytime was $8 or $12, sorry don’t remember exactly. I found a spot in the residential streets just south of Sunset, not that hard during the day! I realize it would be a lot harder at night, though.
Ouch
Scathing review
Gut punch.
Partner loved the Neapolitan but she generally prefers soupier pizza in the traditional Neapolitan style.
I like the Americanized version more but definitely thought the margerhita at da Michele was more than “passably good”.
Addison said the “pizzas hit their mark passably,” which given that the mark is the Naples original seems like fairly high praise.
I’d summarize his review as the pizzas weren’t worth a second trip and everything else was bad.
Seems a little harsh considering he liked this pizzas and it’s a pizza place…
Given how bad the rest of the food sounded, seems fair to me, especially given the quality of the competition.
On Thursday, The Times published my review of the first U.S. franchise location of L’Antica Pizzeria da Michele, the Naples restaurant made famous by “Eat Pray Love.” I’m not a fan of this Hollywood spinoff. It’s the kind of place, in its empty prettiness, I would not have even bothered to review except that it trades off of a very famous name and customers may show up thinking they’re going to have an approximation of the Naples experience. That just isn’t the case.
