Agreed with NS1 - Angel’s is a solid B/B+ taco, it’s probably my most-visited shop because it’s a good option on my way home from my favorite bar (Hermosillo), but not a destination alone.

- Birrieria Barajas on Compton
- Tacos La Guera on 59th Pl. (but lately I’ve been hooked on the cochinita quesadilla)
- Tacos a Cabrón on Atlantic
Maybe I’m an outlier but I will travel for Angel’s. The trompo is always spinning, the tortillas are always fresh. It’s a pretty high level of consistency.
Honorable mention to 5 Cazuelas on Riverside, that closed down a few months back, but served some really stellar and unique tacos and we’re poorer without them.

My experience with tacos canasta is you have to frequent the corridors where Latin American workers congregate and if you see a stand that’s busy and it’s early go there. I’ve found some off the 110 going into LA and the east Los Angeles 101/10 area

Whittier: mochomitos asador, tacos el tio

rancho cucamonga: fat burrito (puffy tacos)
Santa ana: bandito taqueria
Pico rivera: taquearte
Went back to komal last week, the tacos were

Are they on the west side of Vine by the parking lot and are the google hours accurate?
yes, west side of vine, just along the curb adjacent to the pavilion’s lot. triangulating between all the public info – looks like thurs. through sat. between 4pm and 10pm is a sure thing; less so wed. and sun.

I enjoyed the ones at Tacos de Canasta El Abuelo in Boyle Heights (banged it with La Unica down the block). Caveats - they’re the only canasta I’ve tried, and that was a while ago, so I’m not the best judge!

just on the north side of the 10 on hauser, yes! i usually peek at the grill and order whatever is just coming off. i like the pastor. i like their asada. i like their chicken (in plate form, not in taco). i haven’t tried the chorizo. they can press out a huge corn tortilla for quesadilla or a rolled taco, if you’re avoiding gluten.

agree these are pretty good. in my personal semi-ignorant/naive opinion, tacos de canasta are better when the size is smaller - this place checks that box
there’s a stand across the street from the Mexican consulate that are pretty good
I’ve seen on instagram La Salsa (https://www.instagram.com/lasalsatacosdecanasta/) is trying to get beyond the usual cart setup, but haven’t tried yet..
agree canasta action is at its peak relatively early in the morning
second this recommendation, especially now that they are close to LAX and open consistently during breakfast hours.
Ek Balam (https://www.instagram.com/ekbalamyucatancuisine/) - there was a while where this family was selling out of their backyard the best cochinita pibil in LA (by a very wide margin). they seem to be in between plans currently, but if they ever come back to a regular situation, definitely worth seeking out
El Toro (https://www.instagram.com/tacoseltoro_/) - the various tacos gaudalajara locations are all very solid al vapor options, but the unctuous fattiness of the beef here is a slight edge above. best i’ve found in LA
