Still great. Was our favorite meal of the trip. We got a new dish. BBQ Beef nua yang yum katiem style which was a garlicky spicy fish sauce flavor. Excellent stuff which is now on our permanent rotation. The crispy rice with sausage is so good but we’ve never seen it on another Thai menu. Our spice level for this dish is 3 providing a little kick but bearable for the kids.

Forgot to mention but the menu has been trimmed down quite a bit. I should have taken a picture but I’d say the menu is 33% to 50% smaller than I remember.

So glad you had a good meal!

It is me or do there seem to be less garlic prawns than before?

I believe there were 7 shrimp total. Maybe some were covered up in the bowl but it seemed like the same number as before.

Anyone got 2022 intel for solo diner? Do they have a bar or should I just do a takeout order and eat in my car.

Bar for sure at Flamingo location.

Finally made it to Lotus of Siam after reading about it for years. Walked in around 7, no reservations and was seated in 10 minutes.
With two adults and a 4 year old we ordered:

Garlic Crispy Prawns, did not order spicy since our daughter was probably going to try some.
Nam Khao Tod, medium spicy was pretty mild
Pad See Ew, daughters favorite
Mango Sticky Rice
Side of sticky rice
Side of curry sauce, Penang

Garlic crispy prawns were as great as everyone says! Will definitely try them spicy next time.
Nam Khao Tod was pretty good. We still prefer the version at Prael in Hollywood. More ginger, funkier sausage (though when my partner gets her way, it’s with chicken), and a head of red romaine to wrap it up in.
Pad See Ew was very good. Balanced flavors with solid char. I always splash with some chile vinegar.
Mango Sticky Rice was fantastic. Ripe mangos, loved the puffed rice they sprinkled on top.
Side Curry Sauce, Penang. I love Thai curries, but knew it would’ve been too much to do a whole order so I was delighted to see they offered a side. It was fantastic. Nicely balanced. My partner didn’t want her prawn shells so the move here was to stuff them with some sticky rice and dip into the curry. Awesome bite!

Ordered a couple Singhas and a Lime Drink. Total bill was around $132. No service fee.
Solid service. Food came out faster than expected.
I always forget to take pictures, apologies!

Definitely missed out on their crispy duck panang! That’s probably the best item there alongside garlic prawns.

Thanks for the tip! Will definitely get that next time around!

Lunch meal was delicious as usual.

Crispy duck panang (ordered hot) and it was delicious.

Chinese broccoli with fried pork belly - delicious

Spicy garlic prawns (ordered spicy) and they told me they wok stir fry it with japalenos. Always a hit.

Isaan sausage - damn tasty, really enjoyed how they got the casing so crispy. Asked for extra ginger as the portion that came with the dish was rather small.

Pandan flan (they didn’t have mango sticky rice due to it not being in season) which was serviceable. Should have ordered the fried banana with coconut ice cream but wanted to try something new.

New Lotus location at the Red Rock Casino is skewered on Yelp.

Ouch. Thank goodness we kept our reservations for the other branch when we go in December.

Uneven Christmas night dinner here. There was a line of around 75-100 waiting for walk ins. The place was mobbed. Something was off in the kitchen as we received a few dishes with absolutely no heat.

Papaya salad ordered at 5 had zero spice. We sent it back and they added some spice but it was off. Same thing happened with the Nam Kao Tod. Ordered a 3 so our kids could eat but there was no heat whatsoever. We ate this because it still tasted fine but was missing the heat. Ditto with the Tom yum soup. Tasted good but again little to no heat.

Tried two new dishes. Noodle soup with wide noodles. Very similarly to beef noodle soup but again not spicy. Instead of big chunks of brisket there were slices of beef and fish balls. Pretty good. The squid garlic wasn’t our favorite. We were expecting a grilled or different preparation of squid. I think it may have been boiled and we didn’t care for the sauce.

One of our new favorite dishes is the rib eye with the garlic spicy dressing. Forget the name. This continues to be a table favorite.

I think we might be done trying new dishes and stick to the known quantities. Sea bass drunken noodles and crispy garlic shrimp.

This was at Flamingo, or Red Rock?

Flamingo. We’ve been here many times before and never had this type of issue. We will give them a pass bc it was Christmas and very crowded. But not sure this really explains the errors in the preparation. I’ve heard very bad reviews of the Red Rock location. I wonder if they brought over some of their more experienced cooks to Red Rock to improve the quality at the new location at the expense of Flamingo.

Lotus had always been a hit and miss restaurant depending on the dishes we ordered and my lunch there today was no different. Also, they’ve been slowly going downhill
even with their signature garlic prawns and crispy duck panang.

Yes it was quite a disappointing meal and not sure if LOS is on our must eat Vegas list anymore. Raku is much more dependable. We missed out on Carbone. There are other new places we want to try out like Esther’s Kitchen and Anima by Edo.

the panang duck is preferable to the “crispy duck [chu-chee] with fingerroot and bell pepper”?

You have no idea how happy this meal made me. It’s been about 3 years since we were last here.

Requisite vegetables
papaya salad is always a nice way to whet the appetite.

Garlic prawns (spice level 3) - how I have missed you! That potato chip shatter! While the prawns were perfectly seasoned and cooked, I was happier just snacking on the shells. The plate delivered was abundantly full of prawns.

Soft shell crab (spice level 4) - this was our first time ordering this dish off of Mom’s Favorite section. The crabs were dredged and fried while sitting on a bed of greenery and stir-fried peppers and onions. That sauce was umami, heat, sour, salty, and sweet at the same time.

Thai basil fried rice with beef (spice level 5) - because he loves Thai basil and maybe it would be wise to have a carb? It was nice
lots of wok hei here.

Bottle of Riesling from their storied menu. This one paired quite nice with the dishes and heat level we ordered. Even my red-loving spouse admitted to enjoying it with the food
it was best with the prawns and crab
and for $50 is super reasonably priced.

Mango sticky rice - a nice way to end the meal. It is a winner, @PorkyBelly!
