hmm, ok. yeah. That’s what I struggle with. Like I would be thrilled with the pork chop and pork belly but everything else besides the bread seems ok. I’d rather do the crispy potatoes, the persimmon salad, a crispy rice, etc.
i would do alc
- tuna carpaccio
- shrimp tostada
- bing butter honey ham
- persimmon salad
- crispy potatoes
- crispy rice
- pork chop
- rib eye
Loved shrimp tostada. So light and refreshing. Probably my favorite dish of the night. Persimmon salad also excellent. Bings are obviously delicious and I could eat those plain all night. Crispy potatoes - maybe a bit heavier than I remember them but still very enjoyable but I love crispy things. Crispy mushroom rice - so delicious. Tons of umami. My only miss for the night was the bo saam… I wanted the rib eye or pork chop but the table wanted bo saam. This was a big miss for me. The flavors and accompaniements were great but the shoulder was too dry. As someone who doesn’t love excessive fat, even I felt that the fat had perhaps been rendered too far. Overall, loved the food though!
So what’s funny is the next night, we took the bo saam leftovers (it is a massive hunk of meat!!!) and simply shredded it, drizzled water to keep it moist and nuked it for a few minutes. It was so much better. Everything was tender. My kids ate it over rice and had a delectable meal.
new crispy rice nails the flavor of laksa with the added bonus of crispy rice.
tuna carpaccio, avocado, yuzu, sesame
chilled shrimp tostada, passion fruit, cucumber, dill
(new) citrus salad, ricotta, walnut, shiso
ribeye au jus, bing
(new) laksa shrimp crispy rice, curry, chili, lime
bone-in pork chop, spring onion, fish sauce, lime
(new) buttermilk panna cotta, pear, apple, shiso
(new) tres leches cake, coffee, mascarpone, dates
P: the tastes were right today. Nothing was too salty. It’s fine but not special given the price.
W: I’m not as high on this restaurant as board consensus. It’s in “good neighborhood restaurant” range for me, and it’s kind of in our neighborhood. Didn’t really like the laksa rice for some reason. I like laksa. I like rice.
