Agreed although all menu items weren’t always available or some items were phased out, that place was banging till the end.

The intestine and tendon were by far my favorite items, like reason to go there favorite, get two orders favorite. It was like if Langer’s took the pastrami off the menu.

more like if langers removed the liver and onions plate. which according to their online menu, they actually did.

Not even close. Langers is almost a one trick pony. Raku excelled in so many things. Their sashimi game was one of the best in the city.

As much as it pains me to agree with @robert, I do think AR’s excellence was severely diminished long before it left. All the creativity - and many of the best dishes and specials - disappeared before the place did (but not the amazing red plastic map of Japan which I believe is still there - or was when @J_L and I tried the new joint that’s there). I came away deeply saddened many times in that last year.

it was downhill after Sergio (chef Matt) left.

Any idea what Chef Matt is up too? He seems to have disappeared from social media as far as I can tell

Gas prices have kept takeout quite local aside from one epic run to the San Fernando Valley earlier in March to stock up on Ukranian kvass and other items not found in these parts. Part of the epic journey was to pick up chicken samosas from Chacha Tandoori, a Pakistani restaurant very near the I-5 in Arleta. Got those then drove the two or three blocks over to Me Gusta to pick up a bunch of frozen tamales.
