Melisse x Citrin - Takeaway Meals [Thoughts + Pics]

Thank you! What would you get or recommend? Also heard portions are sorta small

What we get depends on a group, but usually an appetizer (favor prawns or scallop) +/- soup, share lobster bolognese (kind of a signature dish from the old Melisse), either individual seafood mains or dover sole (I like this preparation better than republique) for 2. if we are a group of 4 we get dirty chicken which is wonderful, but quite a bit of food. So, portions are generally small, but not tiny, and kind of expensive. Sole and chicken are large and sharable.

I’ve never thought of portions being especially small there. You must order the hits (lobster bolognese and egg caviar) but beyond that just order what you feel or ask; it’s also maybe (definitely?) the best service in LA.

Their happy hour at the bar is still a great deal. The 10 glass of wine is pretty great too, get the feeling it’s just something they have open because neither the white now the red tasted like 10$ glasses of wine.

I had the Buri, Pea risotto, lamb papardelle & duo of Brandt beef.

Great deal highly recommend.

I drank dessert as well with a Rare wine Co Sersial Madeira and Chateau Climens sauternes

Tickets are well over $1K per person.

$1584 each. Doesn’t look like there’s any availablity sadly. Would have been fun to check out.

The Melisse space is pretty intimate I can’t imagine it fits much more than 20. I’m sure that affects the price since this is a fund raising event. It would be pretty cool to have them cook for you in a space like that.

It’s meant to be a fundraiser for their charity. I’ll go to any event where TK himself is cooking, because the dude absolutely brings it. Unfortunately the schedule doesn’t work for me this time…

Citrin was really quiet last night. We noticed some staff turnover. It feels ominous. But 16 oz of A5 Wagyu prepared in a Michelin-starred kitchen for $220 is a great value. And the wine list is excellently chosen and also full of good values (by wine in a restaurant standards).

I rarely say this but isn’t that too much of a good thing (and I really like A5 wagyu) ?

It was excessive for the two of us, definitely.

Good to see Citrin busy on a DineLA Tuesday night. Food was solid, but it was not a big meal. The best play is to hit the bar for happy hour before 7, the base price for the caviar egg and lobster bolognese are less than the DineLA supplement price. The pasta off the DineLA menu is a bit bigger, but not worth the increased cost IMO. Caviar egg is the same.

Otherwise flavors were good and execution was on point even for a scaled back menu. Only criticism is the skin on the duck wasn’t really crispy and was hard to cut. Beef and halibut “cassoulet” were my highlights and I quite liked the dessert.

Pre-bang at the bar

I’ve always wanted to try…maybe the time is now…or at least while DineLA is in play.
