Mori Nozomi (West L.A.): A Pictorial Essay

Going tomorrow, so stoked. Birthday din for wife, sad we couldn’t do udatsu as it opens a bit later but hoping this is better anyway

Alright this place was on another level. What a meal. Pics coming soon but the rice was so on point. Even beat my meal at Kaneyoshi a few weeks ago. Highlights included her cuts/serving of squid and scallop. A stellar kasugodai. Grilled mackerel with matsutake.

Tea pairing was lovely. But the general vibe of the place was unmatched.

Agreed — it’s in that morihiro / kaneyoshi top tier

It might be mine after that meal. Nozomi and Sonagi both my favs for dif reasons but both feel so special and so delicious to me. And I had just gotten back from japan a month and a half ago with some stellar sushi meals…

Just went last night - randomly same time as @NYCtoLA

Huge change in food from our first visit her first month open. Rice has vastly improved but also the repertoire of dishes is showing more finesse and expertise.

The chawanmushi is a simple dashi based chawanmushi but with the texture of the silkest tofu - simplicity perfected. Perfect on a cold evening.

A beautiful halibut sashimi in a light yuzu sauce with the last of the season’s veggies (snap pea, radish, cherry tomatoes). Once you finish the veggies and fish they pour a cold dashi to mingle with the yuzu to liven your tastebuds.

Braised octopus was delicious and so was her slowly growing signature shabu shabu Buri

What surprised me in the cooked dishes was a perfect piece of tempura tile fish, cooked so delicately it almost felt like it was steamed in the skin and then a small piece of a perfect sweet potato tempura

Sushi was all delicious - light application of sauce, perfect sized pieces. I really liked the Kegani piece which you get a whole chunk of leg with a little bit of its own guts. drool. The chopped Scallop also was a fantastic texture play from your standard large scallop piece play

But once again the STAR OF THE SHOW is her Dashmaki Tamago. The perfect fusion of sweet and savory in a gorgeous scrambled egg. My wife was shell shocked by it
