John’s of Bleecker is my gold standard for a NY slice.
I’ve forgotten, does John’s sell pizza by the slice or only whole pies?
@JeetKuneBao For my money, Joe’s > Bleecker St. If you go to Joe’s, make sure you’re getting a slice from a fresh pie. If you see them pull a pie from under the shelf and take out a slice to reheat, abort mission and wait until some other suckers (er, other paying customers) buy all the reheated slices. Then proceed to wait for the next fresh pie to come piping hot out of the oven. It’ll burn the roof of your mouth, but it’ll be worth it.
Thanks for the tip!
John’s is whole pie only. Medium is 6 slices and large is 8 slices. I finished a whole medium by myself. My next to do pizza is Luigi’s on 5th in Park Slope.
I’ll have to ask for your must-eat places for Jewish, Italian, Chinese, Colombian, and Caribbean (Dominican, Rican, Guyana). I also plan to pretty much eat my way along the 7 train, Astoria to Flushing with everything in between. I really like all the neighborhoods south of 14th and I also like the Upper West Side.
jon & vinny’s?
No
Roberta’s?
No
Pizzana?
idk but it looks tasty
It is Ghisallo’s Spartacus pizza. First time going there. A lot spicier than expected and a bit soggy in the middle, but the sauce is great as is the dough.
Ospi?
nope
Mother Wolf?
is correct

Mofongo (the real deal with fried plantain pounded with fried chicharron) and squid with ink and garlic rice used to be great. Haven’t been there in years so I don’t know if they’ve modernized / ruined the mofongo like most places.
It’s better than any slice place I’ve tried.
Do any of the coal-oven places sell slices?
I think they are all whole pie only. Same with Juliana’s and Totonno’s.
It’s worth it IMO. It goes down really easy I ate a whole medium at John’s pretty easily.
