Rule of Thirds, Greenpoint: Japanese-ish, great sake list. They have multiple private dining rooms, guess they specialize in that? Very comfortable seating at the bar thanks to a step for your feet. I wish more places did that.
Presentation of the duck, to be served later in three courses.
Chicken meatball and duck hearts: both very good and very reasonably priced.
Oshizushi: really good with the accompanying yuzu kosho.
Crab mazemen: dish of the night. Three kinds of noodles, great mix of textures and flavors. Chef just going nuts. Caviar was gilding the lily.
Scallops with Parisian gnocchi: nice but the combination didn’t totally make sense to me.
Duck phase 1: ssam with lots of sauces. Really good, very fun. The onions in scallion oil were particularly good.
Duck phase 2: fried rice. Scrumptious.
Duck last hurrah: intense, concentrated bone broth. Took 5-10 minutes to cool down enough to drink. Lovely note to finish on.
It was ridiculous to order the duck for two people, but I’m glad we did. Drank 4-5 good sakes by the glass / carafe.
