Lovely

A flaky taro delight from Jim’s Bakery in Monterey Park. The filling was reminiscent of sweet bean fillings in wagashi.

Sole and chive and vegetarian dumplings with outrageously pungent garlic sauce from Qingdao Bread Food and vegetarian banh mi from Mr. Baguette in Monterey Park.

Tropical acai bowl from Live Right Acai. Well, I had to counteract all those carbs!

Pan de muerto, cheese tamale, and concha from La Mascota Bakery in Boyle Heights. The ofrenda is in tribute to my great-grandmother.

Aww, thanks so much, @bulavinaka and @J_L. Since my great-grandmother is in Evergreen in Boyle Heights, I like to honor her during Dia de los Muertos instead of Obon (Japanese/Buddhist festival for honoring ancestors).

Thank you so much, @Chowseeker1999! Your latest feast from Otafuku looked incredible by the way!

My great grandfather and some of my other relatives are in Evergreen. Of course all from my Japanese side. My aunt used to live in City Terrace and her neighbor was the owner of Canters. Haha

cucumbers stuffed with shiso leaf, seeds, umeboshi, and bonito
Tasted like… cucumbers.

local raw shrimp & lobster cured in sake and its innards
Not what i was expecting, this was pretty much a less intense Shiokara, fermented seafood innards meant to be eaten with sake.

chilled corn soup, yuba, puffed rice
Tasted like a bowl of corn pops

silky egg tofu, uni, fresh nori and wasabi
Not bad, a little too much nori, loved the fresh wasabi.

steamed shrimp dumplings and red shiso vinegar
This tasted like a less shrimpy har gow without the wrapper.

grilled heritage pork in koji, pickled daikon and leeks
Great dish, super tender porky and fatty pieces of pork that went great with the fresh leeks and sweet daikon pickles.

iron pot steamed rice with pickled shiitake and onions #shiitakehappens

mizu shingen mochi implants, left me wanting the real thing

Both where really good. The Real difference for the same amount of food is:
In N Out $15
4 double doubles and drinks
Shake Shake $40
2 Shake Stacks, 2 Double Cheese Burgers and drinks.
