Santa Ana/OC Recommendations

Thanks for the report back! And I am so glad ST Patisserie delivered. That lemon cake looks freakin awesome!

Thanks @A5KOBE! They more than delivered!

You can’t go wrong with either for food and service but, if you get to Marche Moderne before sunset, you might have a spectacular view over the Pacific before going into the restaurant. Look at the menus for both and see which appeals more.

Carnitas Urupan. Came around 6 as they were closing up. Chairs on tables. Nobody else in the place.

This is 1 mixed taco for $3. It’s hard to explain how much meat was on the taco. I’d guess maybe .6 to .7 lbs. This was ~4 tacos from King Taco or another street taco vendor. Great salsa. The meat was generally very good. I tried one piece of carnitas plain and it was on the dry side but ok considering it was the end of the day. Was going to go to another spot but I was honestly kind of full. Burritos La Palma was closed at 6:15.

On my list is a trompo on 1st and Fairview. Forgot the name but it is on the sidewalk the few times I’ve driven down the street.

Necro update,

I’m looking for recommendations for Habana in Costa Mesa/Irvine for Brunch.

This is before Brunch Buffet comes to Irvine, so I got to choose one.

Oh they have one in irvine now?

I havent eaten at either for years, but im chiming in to say the parking lot at the costa mesa location is atrocious and always has been.

It’s at Spectrum.

The drinks and presentation is better than the food itself. My cousins picked it for dinner and it was okay…because we walked in knowing it’s an OC chain targeting influencers.

Service was good.

I prefer the food at Bella Cuba on Bristol and Sunflower to Habana, but Habana wins for ambiance.

Looking for dinner tomorrow night anywhere Santa Ana and as far south as SJC. Cuisine must be not pork-focused and something that isn’t prevalent in North Carolina.

Looking to skew south or central American or Asian excluding Vietnamese and Chinese.

Cocktails and mocktails a plus, but not required.

I’m drawing a blank.

Bella Cuba is out of the question…too much pork.

None of these are very inspired options
Kang Ho Dong
Vaca
Mercado Northgate
Folks Pizzeria
Gabbi’s Mexican

Marche Moderne.

I think Mercado and the Maizano sit-down inside is the winner. Got reservations.

I’m hoping we get there early to stroll around and observe.

For Asian:

  • Tanakaya in Tustin has house made soba noodles
  • Manaao (also in Tustin) for Thai
  • Bri Baru in Lake Forest is a bakery that becomes a casual Japanese inspired eatery in the evening
