Meanwhile, The Mulberry opens across the street from Sun Nong Dan (in the old Plan Check space, on 1800 Sawtelle)…
Surprised no local media has picked up on Mulberry opening. They barely have an online presence, small social media following. Found this tidbit on Culinary Agents site:
I’m sure once they are officially open they will get some love
The first quote-unquote reviews are in.
Am I a bad person for admitting the reviews (more the writing style of the reviews) had me rolling my eyes?
Which is not to say that there is anything wrong the restaurant.
Considering that nearly all the reviews were submitted by first time reviewers? Nope.
Your post prompted me to check on Sun Nong Dan reviews - 22 with at least some coming from experienced reviewers. And it looks like they are open 24 hours!
Wow! Between the students nearby and proximity to the freeway… super smart!
I’m hopeful but skeptical it can maintain its 24 hour status. It’s kinda close but not super close to UCLA - certainly not walking distance. I know some UCLA students live in Sawtelle, but are there enough? Westsiders generally go to bed early. I have my doubts there will be enough late night to early morning business to justify staying open. That said, a 24 hour spot is sorely needed and I really hope I’m wrong. I believe the westside has been without a non-fast food 24 hour spot since Pacific Dining Car and Izzy’s closed.
Agree, especially with no late night bar or club activity in the area.
The Denny’s on Tiverton (Westwood Village) is open 24/7. The UCLA and local community do keep it going…
I put Denny’s in the “fast food” bucket, even though it does not meet the technical definition
Well there was a reason I mentioned the proximity to freeway. I don’t live near Sawtelle, but when I leave LAX, I am always on the hunt for a late night place that I can get a real meal. Sun Nong Dan is definitely now on that list. And there really isn’t anything like this in Culver City and its immediate area.
Just passed by and in this pouring rain there’s a huge line. Time will tell.
Ugh! Friend and I are planning to go this Thurs at 8:30PM. Maybe I’ll go early to add our name….
Whichwich (the complex south of Olympic w/ the Marshall’s) has a sign that says Ding’s Noodle (or Noodles) is coming. No idea how long that sign has been there.
Internet search does not turn up much.
Anyone w/ intel?
Oh, the FB page had the logo added in April 2025. Perhaps it’s a stalled opening…
