Sawtelle updates

Are those “giant” gyoza? I like those much better than the “standard” size (which I don’t find very satisfying, for whatever reason).

Fairy large, yes. Delicious, too!

I heard it was crazy packed on Sawtelle last night. Ikura is a Japanese chain. Their pop up at Chinchikurin has been mobbed with people wanting their omurice.

One of the owners of Korean Shaved Ice was on The Bachelorette. Their Dodgers-inspired logo is pretty cute. I don’t think either explains their popularity though. Maybe it’s just the excitement of something new that will wear off in a couple of weeks.

Yes! I took a pic:

Does anyone know if it tastes any good???

I’m also interested in trying the Greek/Mediterranean place next door (lamb chops, if I remember correctly, and I think they had a dessert I’ve never heard of)…

I just passed by Petros Grill tonight and was wondering the same thing. They have saganaki which really isn’t a thing in LA so excited for that. If you’re talking about the bougatsa, it’s a custard pastry using phyllo. I like it but it’s more of a breakfast dish.

Mian is now in soft open phase in Sawtelle Japantown, occupying the old Dong Ting space (next to CoCo Ichibanya)…

Just saw Mian open when I passed by this weekend and with a fair amount of diners for lunch. I went to 10 Speed for coffee and learned they changed bakery distributors, so they no longer have the seed cookie which is one of the main reasons I go to 10 Speed. Sad day.

Same chain that opened in the SGV to great acclaim yrs ago?

A place called Dorala (https://www.instagram.com/doralamatcha/) is opening in the space next to Artelice (parking facing). I wish them the best of luck in that baddest of bad fengshui spots.

Tsutsumi replaces Unetto.

Mian was packed tonight and, like my recent first-dinner at La Puglia, falls into “technically-excellent-but-curiously-not-quite-satisfying” category, IMHO.

Yeah, Unetto closed in March I believe and Tsutsumi Crepe opened up like the next week.

Oh, whoops. I did an internet search to see if I was spelling Tsutsumi correctly last night and did see an Eater LA article from March or April, so I am clearly behind!
