Brief off-topics:
I actually like the little Bartok Iâve heard. But you (or me) gotta be in the mood for itâŚ
Iâve only done âtrulyâ fine dining twice in my life (and only once on my own dime).
For me, fine dining is something that I respect but not something that I love (even when I didnât have to pay for it). I think the main issue is that itâs a bit too cerebral and analytic for me.
Regarding the $,⌠I absolutely think the $ spent was âworth it,â in the sense that you could easily discern why the meals were so expensive (extraordinary ingredients, an army of incredibly well-trained people employed, beautiful decor, etc, etc, etc). So I donât begrudge fine dining places for charging what they do. But, again, even when I wasnât the one paying, itâs not like a felt a ton of joy after the experience. It was âfine,â but I personally just like things are are more accessible (in terms of my visceral sense of pleasure, not in terms of affordability).
Im not against the price for fine dining. Iâll shell out for Kato or Providence any time I can.
Maybe itâs just the descriptions of the dishes and the amount of courses for a 300$ that all look quite monochromatic in aggregate that makes Selina seem not worthwhile compared to some of my go tos
Itâs a very good song.
Ah! Maybe that speaks to my other point (cerebral). For me, monochromatic wouldnât be particularly bothersome, I think, if there was enough textural variation (I mean, even visual textural variation, if that makes sense).
Is part of the monochrome thing (for you) the actual plates themselves? In skimming the last set of pics, there seems to be a bit âsame-nessâ to the plates (maybe they look quite diff in real life).
Has anyone done the $165/8 course menu? The normal tasting menu looked like too much food for the wife but one review stated they left the 8 course hungry.
Iâd hope they just drop some of the dishes with high food cost (like the black truffle milkshake and coffee caviar)? I think we saw a table doing the shorter menu when we went because they came after us and left before us. I didnât notice them getting different courses than us, but wasnât paying close attention either.
If youâre worried about not having enough, just bang-bang with a burger at Heavy handed Or something from the bar menu at Pasjoli beforehand.
TBH if you asked nicely and itâs not a weekend night, they might do one of each menu for you.
