I think Pizza Hut put this style on the map first I am sure that pizza taste just as great though
Anybody try On’ry at La Fe in echo park? Long term pop-up by Joseph Geiskopf. Menu looks super interesting: I’m out of town for a bit, but this perhaps will be a tad more elevated than a typical pop/up. He’s cooked at a lot of really impressive spots. He was also the one behind that pretty crazy echo park coffee shop that was serving like neo-Nordic foraged plates like 7 years ago. I forget the name, but it was destroyer before destroyer existed.
Triniti? That place was awesome
Absolutely wild to have this high level of cooking/food in a coffeeshop! I am sad I never got to try it. La Cabra in NYC is pretty impressive with in house roast and in house bakery but to have fine dining level food/quality is insane.
Yes, ugh that place was sensational. All to say I have to imagine this place will be good!
+1 to loving and missing Triniti. The pop-up is high on my list, but it feels like there’s suddenly tons of stuff I want to try. Has it been a good couple months for openings or am I tripping? Betsy, Casa Leo, Bub’s Pizza, Tacos Villa Corona Atwater, Darling, and more…
the flies and smog around here were just too much to deal with

I’m late to this party and all the drama, but adding my two cents since I did actually go to the Truly Pizza pop up and our experience as a party of two was very similar to J_L’s as a solo diner.
Pizza was good but not an “oh, I get all the hype” experience like Sei. Toppings were very high quality. I liked the crust more that bf did, although he correctly pointed out how many people were leaving their crusts on the plate. Agreed that we’d rather have Sei (of course) or Pizzana (throw tomatoes if you wish).
We experienced the same indifferent to nonexistent service. No one came to our table for a solid ten minutes after we were seated. We noticed a table of three seated after us had placed their order and received their drinks before we were even offered water. Bf eventually flagged down a busser who brought us water and sent over a server. We got our wine, got our pizza, no one ever checked back. Had to ask for the check and a box for our leftovers when we were ready to leave.
We didn’t notice anyone receiving the off menu pizzas. But given that we were already feeling neglected that might not have gone over well.
Still not sorry we went. Pizza was good, and we rode our bikes there from Venice on a beautiful summer Sunday.
I think I should Pizzana again b/c I’ve been and thought it was pretty meh (and have no desire to return, even though I live close by). Is there a particular pie you like there?
Sorry to hear you got crummy service, too.
At Pizzana I like the neo margherita, fungi, margherita al crudo, corbarina… Also a fan of their salads. And if you join their club (ie sign up for the mailing list), the specials and discounts are pretty great.
The funghi is a darn good mushroom pie. That’s my go to for Pizzana takeout. Agreed they have some good deals running fairly often.
There has been a buy one get one free promo on DoorDash for Pepperoni and Cheese pizza for several months now. Any time there’s an event it’s my go to. Picked up a bunch of pies for my friend’s birthday today.
Okay, I’ll try the mushroom in the near future.
It’s interesting to hear the Truly crust was so meh. I would give the (significant) edge to Sei for toppings, but I actually liked the Truly crust (much) better (and I’m generally not hugely into pizza crust).
Wonder if they had some sort of equipment issue in the evening affecting all the pies….
Wow thx for the heads up!

Vegan review. The veggie sides are flavorful. The chickpea curry. I think if this was served more warm/hot than the aromatics/spices will come out more. Like others have said the temperature of the food is room temp. Intentional? Typical steam table takeout the longer it sits the worse it gets. Can’t beat the price for $12.99!
Tigawok, Sawtelle
Can’t beat the price! Not bad at all. They forgot to take out the beef in the mapo. There’s the beef!
