Smaller villages, towns and cities across Ontario

I love my road trips. I’ll post about my food and drinks here. Feel free to contribute.

I have 2 favourite coffee shops in Woodstock, Ontario. Woodstock is growing quickly. While its population on its county’s tourism site sets population at 41,000, other estimates for its current population come closer to 55,000.

Since Ontario’s cities are growing quickly, I’ll keep track of visits to cities with a population of less than 75, 000 in this thread.

Beantown, where I ordered a latte today

and Early Bird Coffee, which is closed on Mondays.

Strathroy, Ontario, which has a population around 24,000.

I visited 4 businesses in Strathroy today.

Strathroy Deli and Dutch Shop, where I purchased some Gouda, Dutch coconut tarts

spices, blackcurrant concentrate, and a few other things.

I like taking photos of various Dutch groceries.

.

Alla’s Restaurant, a Ukrainian resto and café opened by a Ukrainian woman who immigrated to Canada a few years ago.

I bought some borscht and 3 types of pierogi.

The cottage cheese and potato pierogi, that I prepared for dinner tonight:

Art’es Bakery, a Portuguese bakery I have been visiting for years. I bought a Palmier and Flan today, as well as a ham and cheese turnover. Cash or debit only.

Hamilton’s Bakery, an old-fashioned bakery selling traditional Ontario baked goods, reflecting the English heritage. I bought some date oatmeal turnovers and oatmeal raisin cookies. Hamilton’s Bakery has been in business since 1946.

Some places I will check out on a future visit:

The Rusty Wrench brew pub

Tia’s Place Portuguese Restaurant

The Mexican Colombian shop

The Bridge Patisserie in Point Edward, a nice Portuguese café.

Point Edward is across the St Clair River from Port Huron, Michigan. Point Edward’s population is around 2200.

We bought coffee, chicken croquette, potato cheese bun, crème brûlée, tiramisu, and a chocolate almond croissant.

The Blue Water Bridge between Sarnia, ON and Port Huron, MI.

That’s a very light tortilla soup!

Yes, more of a chicken consomme type of tortilla soup, with less peppers added than most I’ve ordered. Very nice taste and it tasted like housemade broth was used, rather than better than bouillon or powdered soup base.

The styles vary so much from restaurant to restaurant. I’ve been enjoying trying them out wherever I see them. Sometimes Tortilla Soup is called Sopa Azteca in Ontario.
