Somni 2.0 - weho

I was thinking Chave Blanc.

Hard to beat.

Yeah, but it’s not like the Chapoutier is a slouch. There is just a more prestigious / iconic / expensive wine that they could have chosen there, which isn’t the case for some of their selections (vintage aside).

I’m not a big California wine guy, but I have enjoyed Peter Michael wines, particularly the sauvignon blanc, which tastes to me like the very best of white Bordeaux.

they have covers for the chairs, and I imagine they’ll just employ those whenever guests wear jeans.

why they chose chairs that aren’t accommodating to denim is…well, headscratching but I’ll have to wear my only pair of slacks when I dine there next month.

My point is if you’re pouring Krug, Unico, Y’Quem, etc then continue the trend. Besides Chapoutier makes better whites then the Alouette. Though I haven’t had this particular vintage, I find the P. Michael’s over-oaked and gooey. Aubert is a better choice, imho.

Their email says they “highly encourage a business casual dress code - - please refrain from wearing jeans -.” I plan to wear a collared shirt not tucked in and pants that are not jeans. I highly encourage them not to comment on my attire.

if you’re not a big wine guy - the first pairing will do you fine. There’s some good domaines on there, just lesser known is all

Just went. No one cared about what anyone was wearing.

One girl was in full on haute couture with a matching 6 figure Hermes bag.

Cough he who shall not be named cough wore a beanie and black sweatshirt. One of the staff came to chat with him about the brand cause they also like Japanese menswear.

But I see why they don’t want jeans. It would stain on the chairs and rough it up over a long course of use. So it’s not really a dress code thing.

Saw a couple FTCers in the private room!

Thanks for the caviar!

Couple small changes on the menu since @PorkyBelly went.

Kinki has been replaced with Spanish Turbot - so it’s a 2 part dish - a turbot loin, then the old school somni turbot ribs - this version is basted and grilled with a homemade bbq sauce. Finger linking good.

The mussels dish is sans caviar with a lighter sauce - incredible dish, prob my highlight.

The roast eggplant bite is now mushroom - which was also a highlight - truffle on mushroom integrated together.

Peony and I had the same views as usual.

Addison > Vespertine > Somni

Non-alcohol pairing is incredible and way better than Vespertine’s. I recommend getting it even if you get the wine pairing, because the drinks are on par with the food.

Had a great time at Somni with @TryTree . I agree with everyone else that the non-alcohol pairing is a must! They told us that they don’t make enough non-alcoholic pairings for every seat and they appreciate a a call with a heads up if you plan on ordering it so they can make extra. Overall, I’ll definitely be going back to Somni.

Here are my top 3 dishes but I also really loved the sardine tart, mejillones, and “cow and her milk”.

dashi with caviar (#3 favorite)

mar y montaña (#2 favorite)

ravioli and bread (#1 favorite)

Was a drink pairing required for January and February bookings? I hate that I was forced to choose a drink pairing before booking the seats. The wife and I usually just split 1 non-alcoholic pairing or just drink water since we don’t drink alcohol much.

looks like they’re forcing a drink pairing on you now for march. that was not the case before.

Is this the most expensive restaurant in LA at the moment? ( Not including one off pop ups/collabs ect). Just curious

Can’t speak for Jan Feb but it definitely was not required in December.

Forcing a drink pairing seems…wrong. Hopefully it’s just an oversight with the OpenTable configuration.

Glad I went before. I like to pick my beverage, not have them foisted upon me.
