I agree that they could have made the ambience better. I think ultimately, my friends were so discouraged that they wanted to get out of the restaurant industry entirely, unfortunately. The hours are so tough, the margins were so low, and they don’t get enough time to spend with the family.
Ah, I misread your email and thought it was the Dim Sum 101 owners coming with a new concept. I totally get what you are saying. We’ve gotten to know a few local restaurant owners (A1 BBQ / Full House Plus) and as successful as they seem to be, given their eat-in and take-out businesses, it just sounds like an incredibly tough grind with razor thin margins.
The more I have rieras the more I love that place. The owner is so nice, they gave me free food awhile back when I was in the hospital because he noticed that I had a maternity ward bracelet on, earning them a customer for life!
I noticed that they par bake their slices so when a customer orders one it’s not reheated but instead finished fresh.
Also jus poke spicy ahi poke, ono grindz.
I feel like @Gr8pimpin needs to see the sandwich shot. That filling to bread ratio looks very, VERY good (although maybe could use a TINY bit less meat). I also like that the filling is relatively centered. Looks mighty tasty…
Sandwich balance is great theyve got the toppings to bread ratio dialed, while not god tier bread it has the requisite crunch exterior with an airy soft interior of a homemade Italian roll.
Yeah, that’s a good looking sandwich!!
Huge fan as well. Only thing is it closes at 6, which is on the early side for us. Really enjoy the slices. Will have to try hte poke sometime!
I’ve never had the poke there, that photo was from jus poke down the road. But let me know how it is!
ah. i actually go to King Poke a fair amount. Not blow your socks off good but definitely hits spot and close to home.
Lunasia Torrance is now OPEN!!! RUN THERE, EAT AND REPORT BACK ALL YOU SOUTHBAY DWELLERS!!!
Holy Hell. Really? I checked a few nights ago, looks like the ceiling wasn’t done. So I expecting a least two more weeks of waiting. Thanks for the intel. Probably wait for a few days for them to settle down.
Seriously, I was by there last weekend and it looked like a lot of work still needed to be done? I’ll wait a month until they find their groove.
Just drove by looks like all the uncles, aunties and young ppl found out. Large line lol
Great news for the South Bay (and ME!). It’s kinda infuriating the lack of good pizza in the area. But now Prime is set to open in El Segundo! Along Sepulveda near El Segundo Blvd, it’s in the same little shopping center as Offset Coffee. Now you can pregame a slice before Topgolf!
Photo from their FB.

Huge South Bay is a pretty big pizza wasteland
ahem… have you been to the OC?
Oc is a pretty big area but I can think of a couple pizza places I like. Whereas in South Bay since roca left there’s pretty much nothing. I go to la Bella napoli as it’s a small locally owned resto everything is fresh and homemade but their pizza is just aok
My partner said she saw people at Lunasia yesterday, seems to be soft opening.
I went to Lunasia on Sunday. At that time, even though Yelp said they had a waitlist, the waitlist was not working yet. You take a paper number and wait for them to call you. The food was great. You can preorder the food on tablet screens on the wall inside and print that out to give to your server when you arrive at the table. They also give you a QR code so that you can order more food for the table via your phone (no paper menus). The food is really good. The portions are larger than Dim Sum 101. I would say some of the things are Dim Sum 101 were slightly better, while others are Lunasia are better. Overall, I’m so happy we have a true dim sum restaurant in the South Bay now. I plan to go again this weekend.
Thanks for the early report. Did you notice if they have any outdoor seating? ![]()
