This is a tiny sushi place that also has a small Mongolian menu. I’ve never had Mongolian food before so don’t have anything to compare it to, but enjoyed it. The food is tasty and hearty but with “muted” seasoning. They only had two items from the Mongolian menu available the night we went so I want to go back and try some of the other stuff. The owners are really sweet and I hope they do well.
Thanks for the tip. Love trying out different types of blood sausages, just need to eat around my physical, haha!
Do you have any particular recommendation? I love sausages of all kinds, especially dried cured European ones and like what I’ve gotten at European Deluxe.
That’s a good trip, when I worked in the SB, I’d hit Tokyo Central weekly although I feel like that 25 mins back to the Westside is highly dependent on timing of day. That stretch of 405 North as you hit LAX can get ridiculously backed up.
I feel like this place is so “underrated hidden gem” when discussing South Bay Vietnamese. I really like everything here. The rice cakes are a must order if we dine in. And if the sausage is available we get that too. The sandwiches are great for a lunch to go.
Agreed! I really like that place and I am a little obsessed with their house made chili oil which adds a really nice amount of heat to their rice plates.
That’s great to hear I had two less than stellar meals there a couple of years ago after really enjoying my first couple of visits. Maybe will have to go try it again.
We’ve been in PV for 3 months now. Some of our standbys:
Northern Cafe - beef noodle soup is solid! Nice braised beef broth. Noodles hold up well for takeout.
Kings Hawaiian - love their mochinuts. Chewy and not greasy
Kagura - katsu is perfect imo
Tasty Noodle - i want to like it but don’t. Mediocre execution
Ruiji - spicy beef stomach and tendon is a fantastic rendition. Spicy but flavorful and not one note
Gaetanos - love their pizza. More substantial than a traditional Neopolitan, thin crust but holds up week well and doesn’t get soggy. Also a big fan on their short rib pasta
Caps and Corks - best breakfast burrito I’ve found!
Philly’s Best - chain but very well executed cheesesteaks and hoagies. Love their fries also
Cho Dang - much better soon dubu than BCD
Kim Bap Paradise - life saver for meals on the go given our soccer schedule
RHCC Restaurant - nothing crazy but everything I’ve had has been nicely done. Great fried calamari
Lox of Bagels - not quite NYC style but very good bagels
Torrance Bakery - kids love their cookies
Fine Wok - only place we’ve find that does mini hot pot to go. It’s ok but fills a void…
Still haven’t found a great Chinese restaurant for dishes and don’t love the Peruvian we’ve tried. Also haven’t figured out which BBQ joint to try.
We keep it pretty simple. All their kimbap offerings are solid. We generally get the ones with Spam or fishcake. We like that they are light on the rice and pretty packed with pickled veggies, so it’s a great meal for the kids when we are in a rush.
Ruiji is the best I’m gonna day… I’m a noodle soup guy and am still struggling to find a good one. Northern Cafe is the closest thus far. Tasty Noodle is pretty bad. Ruiji’s would be decent eat-in, I suppose, but we generally do takeout and the knife cut noodles don’t hold up all that well.
But haven’t found the cuisines I love, like Taiwanese street food / dishes, Canto bbq, Shanghai dishes, etc. Generally speaking, Szechuan food is good by me, but my family members aren’t fans.
You tried Willingham’s for BBQ? Phanny’s is absolutely the place for breakfast burritos. Chori-man is really good too and be sure to hit up Colossus next door for some baked goods - Busy Bee is around the corner and is legendary for their sandwiches.
