Yeah, I know several heroin addicts personally, and at least a few of them are quite wealthy. Even the wealthy ones enjoy taking a romp on skid row because it’s one of the only places in the world you can shoot up in something like a community of people “like you”.
I’m sure you really get off on judging people from afar, though, rather ironically the reason that even people with millions of dollars prefer shooting up in tents on skid row some nights.
Well, that’s weak. I was dragged to a brunch there and almost every dish was flavorless. The most appalling dish was a “matcha cinnamon bun,” which was just so much worse than a standard cinnamon bun and the “matcha” icing was gloopy, medicinal, and awful.
Bonus: it is across from Pho Song Hai, a chicken pho specialist. Had a short chat with female owner, she is actually from Hainan. We spoke in Canto and Mando. LOL
Comes with grilled pork in sauce, lettuce/herbs, and noodles.
Some people combine in the sauce or empty bowl. Up to you. Nice char from the pork, some sweetness and garlic from the sauce, and freshness from herbs and lettuce. Pretty good. I enjoyed it. Would love to go to Hanoi and have it for lunch. Oh the mint and lettuce with the pork is a great bite!!
I like soft vanilla and I like honey. It was nice but not something I would crave. I am not big on desserts to begin with. I think years of Chinese Dessert aka Oranges made me indifferent. I did enjoy Blackball (see Weekend thread) and that bread pudding at Morrison.
Got the short ribs with 2 scoops of rice and Mac salad. Tasty cut of beef and that Mac salad is a winner. Got the salad because I like the dressing and wanted some foliage.
True mom-n-pop operation. All family members. Well known by local Hawaiians, as they also run the dance school next door.
Teriyaki here is thinner.
Very generous portions. When the owner asks if you want,
" Habanero Teriyaki Sauce?"
“Yes please”
Is the correct answer. I think it is one of the BEST teriyaki sauces around. And the chicken here has always been juicy.
Lots of regulars by name here. Spoke to a Seattle transplant here one night and said it is just as good if not better than Seattle spots.
Bonus: Mos 2, most ghetto fabulous teriyaki joint in OC. Real heads know.
YES!!! For QPR and Tastiness and efficiency… there is some serious good food going on the Teriyaki Huts in throughout L.A. Charki’s Teriyaki in Gardena with their Avocado bowls is my favorite.
Scrolling thru the Yelp pics of Charkis and it looks great! I love teriyaki joints. In LA proper I had Bernie’s Teriyaki in Filipinotown-Echo Park, that was really good, get the beef and pork, the chicken was dry when I went.
