I only objected to the name. This is Loaxley’s personal project. He can make the UI as user-hostile as he wants.
Manually added it.
Ki doesn’t have its own permit. It must operate under the permit of Kaneyoshi or Sawa?
@Loaxley great job! You’ll always have haters for doing something don’t let them drag you down. Will fill it out the form over the holidays
Sorry this has been so much harder than expected. But can you add Sushikodoro Miyama and Udatsu?
And Citrin
Maybe it’s best that I just use the new text list feature….
The text entry matching section queries the same internal database as the manual entry section - you won’t find a restaurant in one that you find in the other.
Clearly the base list I started with (from the LA County Department of Public Health) has more gaps than I anticipated. Looking into the examples you provided, the reason appears to be that the restaurants are operating under the permit/license of other restaurants at the same establishment (e.g, Citrin is under Melisse). But there’s no doubt that you should be able to add Citrin, Udatsu, etc.
I just rolled out a new feature which will allow anyone to add restaurants to the database. Click the “CAN’T FIND WHAT I’M LOOKING FOR” button and follow the instructions. You will see a new search box that hooks into the Google Maps places API. Type the name and select the result, and it will add it straight to the database. The restaurant will be immediately added to your list, and available for others to search and select as well.
We may have achieved peak Bike Shed.
Thanks! FWIW - I made a list of 51 restaurants but too many of them were missing, and the first time I tried the Google Maps feature I still couldn’t find Citrin. So I gave up. I appreciate the effort and hope you figure something out.
First search, there’s Citrin as the top result. The Google Maps lookup connects directly to Google Maps using the official API. If the restaurant is findable in Google Maps, it is findable here, I guarantee it.
I did it!
Paste-a-list feature works great.
I have only 17. Can’t think of any others I’ve been to that I think belong on a “best of” list.
Gonna work on mine today! Is it too late @Loaxley
Not too late!
Going to keep submissions open for another few days.
The save my list button is not working also no catchpa was appearing I have dm’ed you my list
same thing happened to me then I inputted on chrome and that worked. I too shoulda dm’ed said list, ha.
The save button is (was) contingent on CAPTCHA validation. I was able to replicate the CAPTCHA not appearing on certain browsers (but not others) on fresh site load without an active session. A simple refresh fixed it. But yea it would be a total bummer to start a list and then not be able to submit or save it. Sorry about that. I went ahead and disabled the CAPTCHA entirely to eliminate the possibility of this happening again. Hopefully nobody spams the site ![]()
@hungryhungryhippos got your DM, I’ll input your list manually into the database
I’m heading out of town for a few days, going to close entries January 4 11:59 PM, right before I get back in town.
Thanks for the debug! Have a great vacay!
It was fun to make a list! Thanks for putting it together.
Going to post the results on Tuesday - last chance for entries!
A little belated as work got in the way, but here are the results!
THE LA 51 — 2025 Final Rankings
The Top 51 Restaurants in Los Angeles County
METHODOLOGY
Voters each submitted a ranked list of their favorite LA County restaurants (ranging from 12 to 51 picks). Scores were calculated using Dowdall positional voting — each restaurant earns 1/rank points from every voter (a #1 pick = 1 pt, #5 = 0.2 pts, #51 = 0.02 pts). Raw scores are then adjusted by a Bayesian confidence factor that rewards restaurants appearing on more ballots. The result balances strong individual placements with broad consensus.

Wow thanks for this! Very good and interesting list. Mexican seems underrepresented to me at first glance (I should have voted whoops), but lots of cool spots and feels accurate to discussion here. Very cool!
