I’m not familiar with that organization and didn’t quickly find anything vouching for them. Having had quite of medical background, I generally start with some place like the Mayo Clinic. Here’s what they have to say.
The organization you have linked to is a known quack factory:
“Excitotoxicity” seem to be a fringe idea that that is used to sell the idea of things like MSG and aspartame as being evil, typically to sell things or create some kind of name/potential profit for certain people/organizations:
A nice overview of the science:
The FDA lists MSG as healthy for consumption:
https://www.fda.gov/food/ingredientspackaginglabeling/foodadditivesingredients/ucm328728.htm
FiveThirtyEight has an interesting article on how the maligning of MSG may be heavily related to entrenched racism:
So the Japanese should therefore have tons of brain damage complaints since they’ve been consuming MSG since 1909. Don’t tell Anijomoto!
Interesting.
Lots and lots of those same ingredients are part of daily multivitamin.
Now you’ve made me reconsider my entire life being.
Centrum Silver? Or another Chik-Fil-A sandwich? Choices, choices, choices. Sigh.
YES! You described what I was kinda/sorta thinking but not as well. I thought ‘niacin,’ ‘iron,’?
And beta carotene, riboflavin, folic acid and calcium.
Win, win, win, win, win!!
Great pieces! And I LOVE Science Friday!!! Thanks.
A C-F-A just opened in Reno and I’m struggling with my ethical self. I soooo want one. Just one. Maybe I’ll have one and make a donation to a pro-LGBTQ organization. ???
I didn’t either for some time… until my cousin and her wife told me that they still go. That Polynesian sauce keeps them going back for more. I still hardly ever go, but I don’t feel quite as guilty now for the occasional spicy chicken sandwich.
I won’t patronize CFA because their sandwiches are terribad in comparison to shake shack.
But I don’t consider “Shake Shack” “fast food.” But I’ve only eaten at the one near the Museum of Natural History in NYC. Don’t have one around here.
I’m betting some of those are preservatives. I’m turning the big SEVEN OH (NO) in a few days so that’s another plus.
Polynesian sauce?
Thanks for that link, but that article doesn’t say one thing about cumulative effects and long-term damage.
Here are 3 more links to articles/cited research about the dangers of MSG:

None of them are on the Quack Watch list, and I trust Dr. Blaylock more than I trust the often-politicized FDA.
I just intended to post links without the thumbnails, which to me seem like shouting/typing in all caps. I would appreciate instructions on how to do that.
TIA.
We should ban tomatoes. They are clearly dangerous for us.
Peddle your chemophobe view elsewhere, thanks.

I am not a skeptic on vaccines. Thanks for the link.
