latimes staff surprising responsive to comments on the list, even pulling reddit comments to respond to
âŚâŚâŚâŚ didnât mean that literally, which I thought would be obvious.
And I would personally bet they went with 101 because thatâs how many restaurants they do for the big list, so theyâre trying to make that their trademark and an extension of their brand. To which I say: itâs too many tacos for me.
My bet is they started out thinking theyâd do one of their usual listicles, with 20 or 30 places, and the contributors suggested so many they decided to go with 101, like the annual big list (which is obviously why they didnât choose 99 or 100).
Not enough IMVHO
the frustrating thing about el ruso is that before they moved locations to sunset, the quality was tremendous! and it hasnt been sold to new owners so in principle its possible all of these continued good reviews are accurate and i just have terrible luck within their quality cycleâŚ
has ditroit changed any since its early days? i brought multiple people there in the first half year after it opened off the reputation of Enrique Olvera, only to have them be disappointed by consistently bland tacosâŚ
101 is both too many to be able to reflect a sharp opinion, and not enough for full coverage of the tacoâŚ
Yes! And it still had its moments across from ADB. At least Walter was there every day and cared enough to run specials like Aguja etc. Canât prove this but I donât think itâs luck, simply that things arenât as carefully prepared when heâs not there. Tacos 1986 is nowhere near the original popups where Joy was the taquero. Conspiratorial but I doubt food media experience the same thing us civilians get.
Not sure, and for me the tacos arenât where they shine. I usually get the fish flauta, the tamal of the day, and churros. The tamal is typically flavorful and silky. Sometimes the flauta is locked in, others overfried. The churros are good. I like that they serve alcohol. It is not a great value but sometimes itâs the right vibe.
That maybe the best taco list I seen so far imo.
I would show that list to anyone who wants to dive deep into the taco scene or if you want to show off how great LAâs taco game is!
Waiting for esparazas hot takes?!?
Talking about Bill⌠he released his updated list on the same day
Weird that Bee TaquerĂa is still on the list even though no one can confirm itâs even in business anymore.
Not suprising at all lol
He was a wealth of knowledge before he became completely unhinged on social media. Had to unfollow sadly oof. These lists are absolutely silly, the same spots listed over and over.
The fun of living out here is exploring on your own, and coming across some random trompo late nite
True that.
The ultimate flex imo is finding a taco stand/street stand/backyard operation that no one else knows about (yet).
I guarantee a year from now there is going to be a taco spot/s that is not even on these lists make the list.
Itâs kinda like music and art, you search deeper for the deep cuts. The popular stuff is great and/or classic but you get bored with that.
Drive thru the Valley, South Central, East LA, Boyle, Southeast, Mid-City, East Hollywood, SGV. Look outside of churches on the weekends or consulates. Look for signs in the neighborhoods for backyard/frontyard operations. Day, night, weekday, weekend, will all bring different stands. Bonus you can practice Spanish!
Makes me wanna harken back to my list-checking days and hit them all. Seems a worthy endeavor. Sure would be nice to do all 69
In case anyone comes to this forum searching. Bill confirmed via Instagram that Bee Taqueria is officially closed and has removed it from the list.
to all that, you hit the nail on the head, and the music analogy is completely spot on!
I love how different times of the day will bring out certain foods only. Gettin up early in the am on wkds and hitting olympic blvd a favorite pastime
Thanks for the link! I just found out they think the 25th best tacos in LA are right up the street from my house!
