Visiting Chicago

Your time is tight - if you feel like you have time to break the Loop/Mag Mile bubble, I really like scrolling through the recent recommendations of Tim Mazurek (blog name is lottie and doof). He’s much more active on IG than a blog, and he doesn’t seem to make his primary living from social media. So, you’ll need to scroll. He loves bakeries and smaller restaurants. If your trip allows time for other midwest explorations he scooches up to Michigan once or twice a summer and gives me major FOMO.

Is anyone familiar with the Lake Forest area?

Ok, I’ll take that as a no.

That’s where we’re staying and doing mostly family & group things. But! It’s my first trip to the area and I am definitely escaping to Chicago for half a day. What area will we get the most bang for food, sightseeing, food?

Art Institute, Millennium Park, boat tour, blues club

Any suggestions? Lunch too. Not sure what day we’ll get to the city, so looking for spots that don’t require a lot of pre-planning. Looks like Mr Beef is kinda close to the Art Institute.

Probably won’t do the boat tour. Last month when I looked at the weather it was mild, but now it’s rainy everyday.

I love Gibson’s because there’s nothing like it in the SF area, but I don’t know if the same is true if you’re coming from LA.

we liked Dove’s luncheonette in Wicker Park.
their chicken fried chicken is their version of a chicken fried steak.
