Visiting NYC from LA - what are the must-eats?

Does one typically need to make a reservation for any of these 3? I might be leaning toward Dhamaka.

Semma is quite hard to get into, think virtually impossible without reservations. Guessing you’ll probably need a reservation at Adda. Dhamaka perhaps. It’s in Essex Market so a little less formal a setting but not sure.

Dhamaka you probably need a reservation, but you can also eat at the bar (although the full menu is not served there).

I would hit up Tomino Taberna Gallega! There is a dearth of good Spanish food in LA and this place was so good. The Arroz Caldoso especially.

^just putting this out there, I think it’s worth it if you enjoy exploring to new restaurants. Next time you’re in nyc, take the path train from WTC to Newark penn station and walk over or uber to the Ironbound section of Newark, nj for the best portuguese and spanish food outside of Portugal & Spain. For Spanish food, i’d recommend Fornos of Spain. So many gems in north jersey all in all, probably most underrated food area in america - taylor ham baby

We have plenty of Asian food so weren’t focusing on that in NY but we did have that Famous NY Noodle spot in chinatown and it was fantastic.

Damn, I would love to do that! Our issue when we go to NYC is too little time and too much to do. So we always end up spending our entire time on the island…

also for good spanish (shaped by a love for basque food especially) is Ernesto’s.

Seconded. They also have fun happy hours once a week, highlighting a particular producer.

Wah Fung No.1 is fun but nothing extraordinary compared to roast meats you get in the SGV, the only thing is the prices are somehow cheaper than LA?

I have heard from a fair number of people who travel btw NYC and LA that LA food prices are higher. I don’t get why that it, either, but…

Prob lower economies of scale here than NYC. Restaurants over there easily do 300-400 covers a day vs LA where only juggernauts do those numbers.

Wah Fung, dumpling spots, Fujianese snack shops…..

They are not meant to be the best. They provide a good meal at a low price. Just keep that in mind and expectations realistic. They feed alot of people
