What's cookin'?

Many years ago when Bob was traveling for business almost all the time, he declared that we could do whatever I wanted for my birthday. So I said camping - I don’t think “glamping” was a word then. We set up a tent with a queen air bed, down duvet, etc. A friend had sent me roses so they were on a little bench along with a bottle of sparkling wine. Grilled steaks and watched a movie on the porch nearby. Since we didn’t have to drive there, I guess it wasn’t “car camping.”
PS: We really like those Taylor Farms salad mixes, especially the Caesar one.

LOL. So that looks like RV parks where we stay. So I guess it IS “RV camping.”

olive oil, Kiolbasa sausage, onion, celery, carrot, pepper flakes, Pomi, penne rigate, black pepper

Yes, we fish and then cook the fish. Soup is the most common version with our people. That’s a red trout. Sadly this time we did not fish (kids suck). Propane camping stove… but over wood burning is best… this was in a regular campsight around the general mammoth lakes area. We cooked waaaay more than just the fish soup lunch.

these eggplants stuffed with herbs, garlic butter is a georgian preparation… perfect

we always bring crepe batter and have at least 2 days of crepeing for breakfast

bisquits was a nice surprise this time!

very slow roasted ribs

So the final photo of your first batch? The soup isn’t sitting on an electric/induction hot plate?

PS: No 'smores

yes that’s sitting on a regular camping coleman propane burner. usually i use fire though because we have tradition of dipping a burning log into the soup

Strawberries from the Annecy market macerated in a little sugar and Muscat de Chambave with the pasteurized crème fraîche I stupidly bought thinking it was raw-milk (since it’s pasteurized per the AOC it doesn’t need to say so on the label). Good anyway but this I can get at home.

Are you in France right now?

For a few more days.

Hope you’re enjoying your trip.

Does raw milk creme fraiche taste quite diff from what’s available in the US?

Yes.

Did some actual cooking for the first time since I left Berkeley six weeks ago: boiled and drained originario rice with butter, Beaufort, and leftover spinaci al burro.

That’s one reason we prefer airbnb-type places. I get really, really tired of eating out all the time. Plus other areas frequently have such good markets. I remember being in SE Asia a few years ago and all the great looking food.

I do for mainly the same reason. I actually don’t mind eating out for lunch and dinner  , but eating out every day for breakfast makes no sense to me, and the $$$ spent on eating out for the other meals gets old quickly.

Absolutely. And, honestly, I don’t want to face the world without a cup of coffee. Plus a smidge of makeup
Sometimes even when we’ve stayed in a hotel, we’ll bring back meats/cheeses/etc. for the final night’s dinner.

Normally you can very often good package in hotels which include breakfast. I can’t remember when we paid for breakfast the last time in a hotel. If you are a bit flexible with the dates there are often deals with breakfast which are cheaper than the regular room rates

Can you choose from the whole menu? Can you substitute? For instance this morning we DID go out to breakfast at a regular place. We substituted tater tots for the regular potatoes and a side of sausage gravy (like places serve over biscuits).
