FWIW I enjoy Hippo’s food, but I haven’t been back in a long time mainly because I find the dining area cramped and unpleasant.

Yeah I think Hippo accomplishes what it sets out to do, I’ve always enjoyed my visits

I take offense to this thread bc I am probably an OC person who thinks they are hip but is not. If they live in a gated Newport community there is decent enough Italian and Cal/Mediterranean influenced in the area but nothing like Funke or Mother Wolf. Majordomo would be a revelation if they’re into Korean. Dunsmoor would be great but sounds like reservations would be tough.
My choice would be Gjelina or Felix. Easier for them to shoot up the 405.

Yeah, Hippo is the de-facto place I take my mom when she’s in town, ha. (Sure mom, we can eat here if you want to pay for this.) It’s not bad!
