Pop up on the weekends. Announcement coming soon.
Iāve heard thereās a clown-based establishment next door thatās worth checking out.
anyone checked out the Glen Arden club popup yet?
Next block.
took the kids today for dinner. itās a nice little patio for the kids to run around. i got one of everything which included beef, pork belly, swordfish, and lahmajoun. surprisingly my favorite thing was the swordfish which was wonderfully seasoned and perfectly cooked. both the kids loved it which is unheard of in my house when it comes to fish. the steak was next best followed by the lahmajoun and pork belly. i would gladly grab more swordfish or steak any time, but iāll pass on the others. they arenāt bad by any means, but not exactly worth seeking out. the flatbread for the lahmajoun and the pita with the skewers were both delicious.
sadly there were only 2 other tables at 5:30p and it looks like tomorrow is canceled so iām not sure heās been getting the business he was expecting which is too bad.
Good for him!
III Mas opened up a kitchen in Glendale. The menu is just 3 dishes right now: a basturma brisket sandwich , a mortadella sandwich and lahmajoun. You can also buy their pita to go.
I went today and grabbed a Basturma Brisket sandwich. Its got a lot going on. A bit of Langers by way of Yerevan by way of Texas by way of a Glendale ghost kitchen . The pita game is so very strong. Highly recommended. Although, I would suggest splitting it because I ate the whole thing by myself and am falling asleep as I type this.
Basturma Brisket sandwich (hand carved basturma brisket, pickled persian cucumber, chaman spread, and Swiss cheese, house pita)
Iām excited to hear this review. I picked up from Chef Arthur a few times during his pandemic pop-ups and they were always outstanding. His pita was so, so good. I have been meaning to try the brick and mortar but have not made it out yet. Hoping the brick and mortar is as good as the pop-ups!
Here to confirm the deliciousness. Got one of each item and they were all boot knockers. The fresh baked bread makes such a difference.
Well heās opened up a B&M now and is trying to make it selling $38 sandos.

I went opening weekend. I tried the pistachio hummus, hempseed patots, butter kyuftah, chi kyuftah, basturma brisket pita, yogurt kyuftah, ghavurma pilaf, and serov hatsi kadayif. Best dishes were basturma brisket pita (unsurprisingly), yogurt kyuftah, and serov hatsi kadayif. I also enjoyed the patots, butter kyuftah, and chi kyuftah, but they were not as good as the best dishes. The meat on the ghavurma pilaf (short rib) was delicious, but not sure Iād get this dish if I went back as it is mostly rice and chickpeas. Iād be more inclined to get it again if I were with a group of 4-6 and could just have a smaller portion.
Iāve been buying from Chef Arthur since his pandemic pop-ups. He makes some excellent food, especially his pita and his brisket. That said, I think the general public is going to struggle with the idea of paying $38 for what they will unfortunately view as just a sandwich/wrap/pocket, particularly in the setting this new restaurant is in (itās one of those free-standing structures in a strip mallās parking lot, the ones that often house donut shops in LA). To be clear, I will be back, I just donāt know how this will land with the casual diner. I hope he succeeds and I will support him when Iām able to.
itās like $50 after tax and tip. who is this being marketed to. itās not the casual lunch or dinner crowd thatās for sure.
Who it is being marketed to and who is willing to pay these prices might not be the same groups of people. ![]()
With one sandwich, one kyuftah, and the dessert, my wife and I could walk out of there being full and happy, and for less than the cost of what we would typically spend on a night out at a more conventional full service restaurant. Obviously thatās not an apples-to-apples comparison for a number of reasons, but if I were just purely thinking āwhat do I want to eat tonightā and didnāt care about ambiance, alcohol, etc., then this becomes a contender for me. If you wanted to compare this place to a quick and casual counter-service spot, then yes the economics will just not make sense.
I recognize that Iām in the minority of people. Possibly a very small minority. I have my doubts that this place will be able to survive in this format, but I hope Iām wrong.
yeah but you also bought a sando, 1 app, 1 desert, and are drinking water for $90ā¦
sorry for turning this into max and helen round 2. lol
$21 for a salad too wow
No worries, I fully expected these conversations as soon as I walked in and saw the price. I am still bracing for the inevitable Reddit post on this.

Thatās one way to look at it. Another way is that I had a whole meal (for 2 people) that satisfied my hunger, that is not replicable elsewhere, and that I really enjoyed for $90. Iām ok with that. Others may not be.
I am also a fan of Arthurās food and will be visiting soon. Not to be a rube but are there explanations of the dishes anywhere or is that the whole menu? I consider myself fairly fluent with a lot of this stuff but still hard to picture exactly what each thing is, even cross referencing with his Instagram. I guess Iāll google in advance but it feels a little⦠hostile?
