If you are by Angelo’s you should drop by Sarcone’ for the tomato pie and seeded roll. Isgro Pastries for cannoli’s. John’s Water Ice for you guessed it water ice.
Angelo’s you will get all of the Philly’s greatest hits. Cheesesteak on a in-house baked seeded roll, fried onions, and Cooper sharp cheese. The hoagies and chicken cutlets sandwich are also very good. The pizza is also great but looks like you will be overdosing on pizza in NYC. There is a park nearby to enjoy it. Around the corner from Sarcones is a bench too. Or just eat it on a stoop. It’s Philly not OC “get off my lawn” lol
Another place to check out is Dolores Deli. For a classic South Philly hoagie experience I like Ricci’s. Herr’s potato chips are the choice here. Have a Tastykake too. Most delis and papi stores will have them. Or hit up Wawa. I love me some Wawa coffee lol
If NYC:Pizza than Philly:Sandwiches. I’ll stand by this Philly is the sandwich capital in this country!
Reading Terminal Market is also a great place. Standouts for me is the Amish baked goods counter and Miller’s Twist for the best soft pretzels!
Don’t have a sit down Italian rec but Chef Marc Vetri is well regarded. Fiorella is his more casual option than Vetri.
South Philly is one of my favorite neighborhoods in the country!
